For illness, join palms and maintain focus with respect. An opportunity should be given to a monk who is debating under the influence of fear. If a debating monk wants to give an opportunity to a monk who is debating, the monk who is debating should be examined in five aspects. What are the five? Does this venerable one have discipline and was previously ordained? Does he have shame and regret? Is he bound by vows and does he want to keep them? Is this venerable one learned, able to retain what he has learned, has he accumulated learning, is he proficient in reciting scriptures? Is he very certain about the Vinaya, the higher Vinaya, and the Sutras? The debating monk should examine the debating monk in these five aspects and then give the opportunity. The debating monk, wanting to give an opportunity to the debating monk, should keep five dharmas in mind and then give the opportunity. What are the five? Is the debate that others are conducting with me true, or is it not because it is untrue? Is it debating at the right time, or is it not at the wrong time? Is it a meaningful debate, or is it not meaningless? Is it debating with gentle words, or is it not with harsh words? Is it debating with loving-kindness, or is it not with anger? Thinking like this: How can I get such an opportunity from others? The debating monk, wanting to give an opportunity to the debating monk, should keep these five dharmas in mind and then say these words to the debating monk: Hey, venerable one who is debating, please know and speak to me! Venerable one, please open up to me! Venerable one, please debate with me! Venerable one, what should be said about the opportunities you have given? How should you instruct me? How should you debate with me? How should you remember me? For what reason should I give the opportunity? Among the offenses, is it a Parajika (ཕས་ཕམ་པ་, Parājika, Parājika, Defeat) offense? Is it a Samghavesesa Is it a Prayascittika (ལྟུང་བ, Prāyশ্চittika, Prāyaścittika, Offense Requiring Confession) or a Pratidesaniya (སོ་སོར་བཤགས་པ, Pratideśanīya, Pratideśanīya, Confession to Another) offense? Which one should be said? Among the committed offenses, is it caused by a Parajika offense? Is it caused by a Samghavesesa offense? Is it caused by a Prayascittika offense? Is it caused by a Pratidesaniya offense? Is it caused by a training rule? I should give the opportunity.

Should be confessed, should be guarded, transgressing the Vinaya, arising from evil speech, arising from manifest conduct, by what means should these transgressions be distinguished? What have I seen? What have I heard? What do I suspect? Transgression of the body? Transgression of speech? What is it that I have manifestly committed? What have I committed, a grave offense? A light offense? With remainder? Without remainder? Transcending all? What offense have I committed? Has the discipline been broken? Has the view been broken? Has the conduct been broken? Has the livelihood been broken? Has everything been broken? What has been broken? Walking, standing, sitting, sleeping, and not sleeping, from which of these actions should I speak? Was it done in a village? Was it done in a monastery? Was it done on the road? Was it done on a wrong path? Was it done at night? Was it done during the day? Of these, what have I done, please tell me. The monk who has been admonished should distinguish the monk who is admonishing in these five ways, let him take a vow, and speak these words. The one who is to be admonished, please speak of the offense as you have vowed. In short: fear and confusion, the Brahma's penalty has no order, the penalty of intimidation is manifest, and the truths are also the same. When the monk who has been admonished is distinguished, the monk who is admonishing should reassure him in five ways: Venerable one, do not be afraid! Do not be afraid. Do not be frightened. Do not always be frightened! Do not always be afraid! Do not panic! Do not cause panic! Do not be timid! Do not cause timidity! The monk who is admonishing should also reassure the monk who has been admonished in five other ways: Venerable one, I do not cling to your confusion. I do not cling to the moment of your panic. Venerable one, I cling to your final decision. Venerable one, he should be made to take a vow three times. The monk who has been admonished should also reassure the monk who is admonishing in five other ways. If, venerable one, you are worthy of the Brahma's penalty, you should be proclaimed with the Brahma's penalty. If it is appropriate to be treated with unpleasant feelings, actions that cause unpleasantness should be done. The monk who is admonishing should also
