The same applies to those who are mentally disturbed, afflicted by illness, deaf, and foolish. Monks, if a monk uses eunuchs and hermaphrodites to make up the number of many, and then gathers many people together to beg for food within the same boundary, what happens? It is a transgression. Similarly, those who have been expelled as nuns, those who have killed their father, mother, or an Arhat, those who have maliciously drawn blood from the Tathagata, heretics, those who have become heretics, thieves, non-residents, those who reside separately, those who have previously committed offenses, and those who have previously quarreled, if a monk uses these people to make up the number of many, and then gathers many people together to beg for food within the boundary, what happens? It is a transgression. Monks, if a monk uses those who have caused division in the Sangha, those who are close to them, and those who have been renounced to make up the number of many, and then gathers many people together to beg for food, what happens? All will fall into transgression. Monks, If a monk uses a monk residing in another place to make up the number of many, and then gathers many people together to beg for food within the same boundary, what happens? It is a transgression. Monks, if a monk uses nuns, female novices, female precept-holders, and male precept-holders to make up the number of many, and then gathers many people together to beg for food within the same boundary, what happens? It is a transgression. Monks, is there a situation where a monk gathers many people together to beg for food and does not commit a fault? Upali, there is. That is, if the food is continuously provided in that place, or if the food is passed around to each other. Monks, if a monk perceives a solitary place as a place where many people gather and begs for food, what happens? It is a transgression. Monks, if those who have been renounced gather many people together to beg for food, what happens? It is a transgression. Monks, if nuns gather many people together to beg for food, what happens? It is a transgression. Monks, if nuns, female novices, and male precept-holders gather many people together to beg for food, what happens? It is a transgression. In short, the fourth celestial food is the same: continents, gods, and names, non-food and offenses, the wicked and nuns. The venerable Upali asked the Buddha, the Blessed One.
