What happens? It becomes an offense. Bhikshu, if a monk causes a layperson's bowl, or robe, or any other item, to be hidden, what happens? It becomes an offense. Similarly, with regard to an eunuch, one who defames a bhikshuni, one who kills their father, one who kills their mother, one who kills an arhat, one who maliciously draws blood from the Tathagata, a heretic, one who has become a heretic, a thief's dwelling, one who dwells separately, one who does not dwell, one who previously quarreled, the bowl of one who previously committed an offense, or robe, or any other item, if the mendicant's belongings are hidden or caused to be hidden, all become offenses. Bhikshu, if a monk causes division in the sangha, or inclines towards division, or hides the bowl or robe of a monk who has been given instruction, or causes it to be hidden, what happens? All become offenses. Bhikshu, if a monk hides the bowl, or robe, or any other item of a bhikshuni, or a bhikshuni, or a shramanerika, or a shramanera, the mendicant's belongings, or causes it to be hidden, what happens? It becomes an offense. She commits a misdeed. Venerable one, if a Bhikshu, thinking that someone who has received full ordination has received full ordination, hides something, what happens? He commits a downfall. If he thinks that someone who has received full ordination has not received full ordination, he commits a misdeed. If he thinks that someone who has not received full ordination has received full ordination, he commits a misdeed. Venerable one, if he thinks that someone who has not received full ordination has not received full ordination and hides something, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Venerable one, if he prepares to hide something when he has not received full ordination, and it is completed when he has received full ordination, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If he prepares when he has not received full ordination, and it is not completed when he has received full ordination, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If he prepares when he has not received full ordination, and it is completed after he has received full ordination, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If he does not prepare when he has received full ordination, and it is not completed when he has received full ordination, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If he does not prepare when he has received full ordination, and it is completed after he has received full ordination, what happens? He commits a misdeed. If he prepares when he has received full ordination, and it is completed after he has received full ordination, what happens? He commits a downfall. If he prepares when he has received full ordination, and it is completed when he has not received full ordination, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Venerable one, if a Bhikshu instigates another to hide a Bhikshu's bowl, or robes, or any other Bhikshu's utensils, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Venerable one, if a Bhikshu hides the Sangha's utensils, or instigates hiding, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Venerable one, if a Bhikshu hides a Bhikshu's bowl, or robes, or any other ascetic's living utensils for the sake of another, what happens? He commits a misdeed. Venerable one, if someone who has been given precepts hides a Bhikshu's bowl, or robes, or any other ascetic's utensil, or instigates hiding, what happens? He commits a downfall. Venerable one, if a Bhikshuni hides a Bhikshuni's bowl, or robes, or any other ascetic's utensil, or instigates hiding, what happens? She commits a downfall. For the Shikshamanas, Shramanerikas, and Shramaneras, it is a misdeed. In short, it is a letter for sending messages.
