May we be transformed. The monks posed a common question, but out of shame, they did not speak. The Blessed One said: Let the bhikkhuni come and ask. Let her speak to the bhikkhuni, and let the bhikkhuni also speak to the bhikkhu. When this topic was heard, the Venerable Shariputra had another bhikkhuni ordained, and he exhorted her thus: You have been ordained in the teaching of supreme wisdom, do not be weary of this perfect leisure which is so difficult to obtain. In the midst of that exhortation, she began to bleed. The Venerable Shariputra said to her: Sister, arise and go. She was ashamed and remorseful because of the bleeding and did not rise. The Venerable Shariputra knew this and left. The bhikkhunis said to her: Sister, in the assembly, do you not have faith in the teacher, or are you rising? Why do you not rise? She said: Sisters, if there were no such great qualities, would you also speak thus? I am squatting and bleeding, how can I rise? They were speechless. Those things that had happened, they told the monks, and the monks reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Therefore, when ordaining a bhikkhuni, do not have her squat, but place her on a mat, grass, or a cushion with padding, because women's stomachs are soft. In short, the remaining monks are not allowed. Impure things are waistbands, breast cloths, and chest bands; these obstacles should not be held. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Anathapindika's Grove in Jeta's Grove in Shravasti. Then, Gautami, the Great Prajapati Gautami (Sanskrit Devanagari: प्रजावती गौतमी, Sanskrit Romanization: Prajāvatī Gautamī, Chinese literal meaning: Qiaodami Qiaodami), the mother of beings, with five hundred attendants, having traveled through villages and fields, arrived at Jeta's Grove at sunset. She thought: If I go to Shravasti now, it will be too late, so I will stay here for the night and go tomorrow morning. So she lay down on the ground, and her Dharma robes became covered with dust. Thinking that she would have to return again tomorrow morning, she immediately paid homage to the Teacher and left.

Having thought thus, they went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One and sat before him. The Blessed One saw that her Dharma garment was covered with dust and said, "Gautami, who has caused your Dharma garment to be covered with dust?" She reported the details of what had happened. Then the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda, "Ananda, have the monks not given the remnants of the monks' cushions to the nuns? They have not given them." The Blessed One said, "Ananda, therefore, allow the remnants of the monks' cushions to be given to the nuns. Do not hesitate about this." The Blessed One said to the monks, "Give the remnants of the monks' cushions to the nuns." Then other monks took very good cushions and gave those remnants to those nuns. The Blessed One said, "Do not give good ones, but give old clothes, woolen cloth, or cotton cloth." The origin of the story is that it happened in Shravasti. The Venerable Maha-Kashyapa put on his undergarment and Dharma garment in the morning, and taking his bowl, entered Shravasti for alms. The nun Thullananda also entered the monastery. Because of the past season, the rivers were full of water, and the Venerable Maha-Kashyapa was crossing a bridge, and Thullananda saw him. She thought, "I will make this fool unhappy." So she went quickly, and as he was crossing the bridge, she shook the bridge. The Venerable Maha-Kashyapa fell down, and his sanghati and undergarment were soaked with water, and the bowl fell and sank into the water. The food was taken away. She said, "Sister, this is not your fault, it is the fault of the Venerable Ananda. Because he allowed those women who engage in coarse behavior to be ordained and fully ordained in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, and rejoices in the property of the nuns." The monks heard about this and reported it to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One thought: who with the nuns, crossing the bridge together with the monks

If crossing a bridge together is a fault. Therefore, a bhikshuni should not cross the same bridge with a bhikshu. If she crosses, she will incur a transgression. The Blessed One said to the bhikshunis, "Do not cross the same bridge with a bhikshu." They did not cross other strong and wide bridges either. The Blessed One said, "Those should cross bridges that are strong and wide; do not hesitate about that." The story takes place in Shravasti. Then, the bhikshuni Stula-nanda, in the morning, put on her lower garment and robes, and taking her bowl, entered Shravasti for alms. She went to the nun Utpalavarna. She greeted her with pleasant words of welcome and spread out a seat. After talking for a moment, Stula-nanda said, "Utpalavarna, your waist is so slender!" She said, "Reverend Mother, what is the purpose of your asking this? I am always trying to please the gods in some way." Stula-nanda said, "Utpalavarna, although that is so, please speak just to dispel doubt." She said, "Reverend Mother, I wear a girdle." Stula-nanda said, "Good, therefore you please and delight the minds of many people." She said nothing and remained silent. Stula-nanda went to the summer house and wore a girdle. Later, Stula-nanda was bathing with the bhikshunis near the river Ajiravati, and they saw her and asked, "Reverend Mother, our waists are thick and large, why is yours so slender?" Stula-nanda said, "Sisters, I wear a girdle. Therefore, my waist is like this." They asked, "Reverend Mother, are you allowed to wear a girdle?" Stula-nanda said, "Sisters, it is allowed or not allowed, but I wear it." The bhikshunis mocked and reviled her. They spoke badly, "How can a bhikshuni wear a girdle?" After this happened, they told the bhikshus. The bhikshus reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said.
