And, departure does not occur by being eaten by demons. Joyful one, sentient beings are those who take karma as their master, enjoy the allocation of karma, and are dependent on karma, whether it is virtuous or sinful. Whatever karma they do, they become the recipients of that karma. Joyful one, living to be a hundred years old will experience ten different stages. The first stage is that of a young, ignorant child lying on its back. The second stage is that of a youth with a playful nature. The third stage is that of sporadically enjoying desires. The fourth stage is that of being full of strength and joy. The fifth stage is that of being endowed with wisdom and courage. The sixth stage is that of having memory and a reflective nature. The seventh stage is that of stability reaching its limit. The eighth stage is that of stability being like a king. The ninth stage is that of an old person being afflicted by old age. The tenth stage is that of life being exhausted and becoming subject to death. Joyful one, in this way, living to be a hundred years old will separately experience these ten stages. Living to be a hundred years old will live through three hundred seasons, that is, a hundred winter seasons, a hundred spring seasons, and a hundred summer seasons. Living through three hundred seasons is living through one thousand two hundred months, that is, four months of winter, four months of spring, and four months of summer. Living through one thousand two hundred months is living through two thousand four hundred half-months, that is, eight half-months of winter, eight half-months of spring, and eight half-months of summer. Living through two thousand four hundred half-months is living through thirty-six thousand days and nights. Living through thirty-six thousand days and nights, apart from the food that cannot be eaten due to interruptions in food intake, one will eat seventy-two thousand portions of food. Among these interruptions in food intake are these: not eating because of anger, not eating because of happiness, not eating because of suffering, not eating even when obtained, not eating because not obtained, not eating while lying down, not eating while fasting, and not eating while intoxicated by play.
