Surrounded by a host of গন্ধর্বs. Like the noble one surrounded by a host of water jars. Like the fair-eyed one surrounded by a host of nāgas. Like the giver of wealth surrounded by a host of yakṣas. Like woven copper ornaments surrounded by a host of asuras. Like Indra surrounded by a host of the Thirty-three. Like Brahmā surrounded by a host of Brahmā's retinue. Extremely tamed by the senses. Whose conduct and behavior are not confused. As still as a reservoir of water. Like a cloud, full of water. Like the king of elephants, free from arrogance. Well adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great being. His body beautifully adorned with the eighty minor marks. Adorned with a fathom of light. Possessing light surpassing a thousand suns. Like a moving mountain of jewels, all-good. Possessing the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, the three unconfused mindfulnesses, and great compassion. Together with those great śrāvakas such as Ajñātakauṇḍinya, Aśvajit, Bhadrika, Vāṣpa, Mahānāman, Yaśas, Pūrṇa, Vimala, Gavāmpati, Subāhu, and also surrounded and led by a very large saṃgha of monks, he traveled to Śrāvastī, where he resided. That meaningful one and a wise one were walking together, and the time of poverty came upon them, and they became weakened by hunger. He thought: What means do I have by which I will not become weakened by hunger? He thought again: If I seek refuge in the śramaṇas of the Śākya's son, they will lead me on the path to happiness. Realizing this, he went to the monks and said: Your teacher is fond of goodness, for he plows the fields with a golden plow, so he grants you hundreds of delicious foods, mountains of clothes, and five hundred-storied houses, so you dwell in ease even in this very life for a while. And those who die and transmigrate from here will be born among the gods. Our teacher is fond of evil, for he uses a plow of sesame dregs.

By tilling the fields, they do not allow us clothes, huts, food, wandering around, or sleeping on the ground. Therefore, we temporarily live in suffering, and after dying from here, we will be born in hell. The monks thought: "This wise person has become faithful." They said to him: "Wise person, how do you live?" He said: "With difficulty." The monks asked: "Do you want the leftovers from the alms bowl?" The wise person thought: "If I do not eat the leftovers from the monks' alms bowl, I will starve to death." So he said: "I want it." The monks said: "Wise person, stand in the sight of the monks eating, and the monks will give you the leftovers from the alms bowl." The wise person stood in the sight of the monks eating, and the monks gave him the leftovers from the alms bowl, filling his begging bowl to the brim. He took the begging bowl filled to the brim and came out, and the caravan leader saw him and said: "Wise person, who gave you this burden?" He said: "Your objects of offering are those monks, and my objects of offering are those monks, so they gave it to me." The caravan leader said: "Wise person, if the monks gave it to you out of compassion, do you say that they are my objects of offering and I am their objects of offering? If the Blessed One hears of this, the Blessed One will establish a basis for training for the hearers in the Vinaya, and such a thing will happen." He said: "Caravan leader, don't do that, just laugh." A like-minded person came from that road, and a wise person came with the like-minded person. He saw that person and said: "Wise person, are you full?" He said: "I am full." "From where?" He said: "These householders of the huts give me the food I need." He said: "Wise person, you are ungrateful. Are these the householders of your huts? It seems that from these people, a sangha of five hundred will be completely liberated from suffering."

Did ོད་, with his wisdom, think that he saw someone completely liberated from suffering? Then he spoke these verses: Why doesn't the wicked one sink into the earth? Why doesn't his tongue split into a hundred pieces? Why don't vajra hailstones, short spears, and arrows strike your body? Like a jackal that eats the leftovers of a lion, wanting to kill the lion itself. Similarly, you enjoy the power of the ten strengths, but you revile the ten strengths, which is not appropriate! By relying on where, by relying on whom, can such a wicked person obtain a livelihood? From now on, he will certainly treat friends and enemies equally, be wise, and be all-knowing. Those people who do not know how to repay kindness, I think they are even worse than dogs. Even a dog seems to know the kindness of people, but people like snakes release poison. This is something that happened temporarily, the Blessed One did not temporarily establish the basis for the training of the hearers for taming. Then, the Blessed One traveled through Kosala and other places and went to Shravasti. In a garden in Shravasti, about five hundred widows were spinning and living there, and they saw the Buddha, the Blessed One, who was adorned and illuminated by the thirty-two major marks of a great person, like a person with form possessing the Dharma, like a person covered with gold powder, like a lamp in a golden vessel, like a golden mountain walking, like a golden stupa decorated with various jewels. They saw the Buddha with fame, clarity, non-retreat, purity, and pure wisdom. After seeing him, they thought: When sentient beings born from the cause of accumulating virtuous roots see the Buddha for the first time, they will generate a feeling of mental pleasure, just like practicing the mind with calm abiding for twelve years, a poor person seeing a treasure, a person without a son getting a son, being very happy about the kingdom, and being granted the kingdom, none of them can generate a feeling of mental pleasure. So they went to where the Blessed One was, bowed to the Blessed One's feet with their heads, and sat down on one side. After sitting down on one side, the Blessed One understood their thoughts.
