I will not fall into danger through feelings. The forty-seventh transgression, which causes one to experience the loss of an arm or limb, is complete. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Jetavana in Anathapindika's grove in Shravasti. At that time, the venerable Maha Maudgalyayana ordained and fully ordained seventeen young monks born in Sarpa, including attendants and others. At that time, they relied on the group of six, served them, and revered them. Then Acharya said, "Come here, group of seventeen! Do this and that!" They said, "Are you not our teacher or preceptor?" He said, "You fools, what else do you do?" Then he struck one of them, and they all said, "We have been struck! We have been struck!" Then they fell to the ground and began to cry. The monks said, "Venerable Acharya, why do you strike the young men?" Acharya said, "Venerable ones, when I struck one, they all fell to the ground and cried." The monks said to the group of seventeen, "Venerable ones, if one of you is struck, why do you all fall to the ground and cry?" They said, "If we don't cry, we will all be struck." The monks with few desires rebuked, saying, "Why do the monks become angry, agitated, and arrogant, and strike the monks out of displeasure?" They condemned, threw things, and spoke harsh words. At that time, the monks reported to the Bhagavan. Then the Bhagavan, for this matter, for this origin, for this cause, convened the Sangha of monks, as before. The Buddhas, the Bhagavans, knowingly commit offenses, etc., as before. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, rebuked the venerable Acharya, "Acharya, is it true that you struck a monk out of anger, agitation, and arrogance, and displeasure?" "Venerable one, it is." The Buddha, the Bhagavan, said, "This is not the conduct of a Shramana, it is not in accordance, it is not appropriate, it is not in accordance with the rules."

Doing so is an unlawful act and has been severely condemned. Then, after the Blessed One condemned it in various ways, he said to the monks: Monks, therefore, having truly seen the ten benefits, one should establish the basis of learning for the hearers in the Vinaya, etc., as before. My hearers should recite the basis of learning in the Vinaya in this way: If any monk, out of anger, agitation, and intimidation, being displeased, strikes a monk, he commits a Patayantika offense. Among them, "any monk" refers to a beginner, or anyone else like that. "Out of anger, agitation, and intimidation, being displeased" refers to being controlled by anger out of anger. "To a monk" refers to someone of the same sect. "Strikes" refers to the act of striking. "Commits a Patayantika offense" refers to causing beings to be burned, tormented, and fallen in hell, animals, hungry ghosts, and other evil realms and places of downfall. Furthermore, as long as these Patayantika offenses have not been confessed and individually confessed, they will obstruct virtuous dharmas. Therefore, the Buddha said, "Commits a Patayantika offense." So, how does one commit a Patayantika offense? Through internal contact, external throwing, and both. How through internal contact? If a monk, out of anger, agitation, and intimidation, being displeased, strikes a monk with one finger, he commits a Patayantika offense. Striking with two, three, four, five fingers, he commits five Patayantika offenses. Striking with a fist, elbow, shoulder, head, chest, back, waist, thigh, knee, shin, or even with a toe, one commits a Patayantika offense. This is through internal contact. How through external throwing? If a monk, out of anger, agitation, and intimidation, being displeased, throws an arrow at a monk, he commits a Patayantika offense. Like an arrow, an iron arrow, a half-iron arrow, an arrowhead, a Be'u-so arrowhead, a four-cornered arrowhead, a Karavira leaf-shaped arrowhead, a sparrow-heart arrowhead, a wheel

Lalo, a vajra single peg, a great arrow, a single-headed spear, and the fruit of a cedar tree, even throwing a handful of mustard seeds, as many mustard seeds as hit the body, that many falls occur. As many mustard seeds as do not hit the body, that many misdeeds occur, because of throwing them outwards like that. How is it if both are present? If a monk is angry, enraged, and fierce, and dissatisfied, and strikes a monk with a knife, he commits a fall. What is the case with a knife? Just like that, a long knife, a single-edged knife, a double-edged knife, a spear, a javelin, a water knife, a blade of grass, even striking with a broom, as many blades of grass as hit the body, that many falls occur. As many blades of grass as do not hit the body, that many misdeeds occur, because both are present like that. There is no fall in practicing mantra with threats and beatings. There is no fall for beginners, madmen, those with disturbed minds, and those afflicted by feelings. The fall of striking, this forty-eighth is complete.
