The group of six monks said, "Friends Nanda and Upananda, as long as the Blessed One lives and we are alive, the Dharma will abide. When the Blessed One passes into complete Nirvana and we reach our time, then it can be said that the Dharma has declined. As long as we are alive, we will cherish the Dharma. They also taught the Dharma to the queen, the princes, the ministers, and the leaders of the market, causing a great multitude of people to develop great faith. We will go and experience the excellence of the banner of the great-bellied king, the splendor of the army, and the sight of the arrayed and prepared troops."
