Then King Pasenadi came, and he said: "Wise ones, why do you not walk around, but sit with your minds full of doubt? How can we gods conquer? These shaven-headed monks, wearing large cloths and holding books, it is strange that they do not walk around. Who are they? They are the group of six monks. Wise ones, these are vulgar monks, what harm do their words do to you?" King Pasenadi of Kosala thought: "These people will offend me again and again," thinking this, he said to a person: "Hey, attendant, come here. Go to where the Blessed One is, and with my words, bow to the Blessed One's feet with your head, and ask the Blessed One if he is free from illness, free from trouble, light in movement, at ease, strong and healthy, and without fault. And report this: 'Venerable one, King Pasenadi of Kosala reports that these venerable saints seem to be equipped with an army and have been living in the army for a long time. Alas, for the sake of compassion, may the Blessed One not let the saints be like equipped with an army again, living in the army for a long time. It would be good if the Blessed One would do something to remind the saints a little.'" That person listened to King Pasenadi of Kosala's command and replied: "As you command." Then he went to where the Blessed One was, and after arriving, he bowed to the Blessed One's feet with his head, and then sat down to one side. After sitting down to one side, that person reported to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, King Pasenadi of Kosala bows to the Blessed One's feet with his head, and asks the Blessed One if he is free from illness, free from trouble, light in movement, at ease, strong, living in ease, and without fault. Hey, attendant, may King Pasenadi of Kosala and you be well. Venerable one, King Pasenadi of Kosala's report is that these venerable saints seem to be equipped with an army and have been living in the army for a long time. Alas, the Blessed One is compassionate.

For the benefit, someone reported that it would be great if the Blessed One could establish some mindfulness practices for the noble ones, so that they would not stay in the army for a long time because of watching the army. The Blessed One did not say anything to that person, indicating consent. Then, that person realized that the Blessed One had consented by not saying anything, and left from the presence of the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, as before, convened the community of monks because of this event, this origin, and this occasion. The Tathagata Blessed Ones knowingly commit offenses, etc., also as before. The Blessed One rebuked the group of six monks: Monks, is it true that you watch the army and stay in the army for a long time? Venerable ones, it is true. The Blessed One rebuked them, saying: This is not the conduct of a renunciant, it is not in accordance, it is not appropriate, it is not in accordance with the Dharma, a renunciant should not do such things. Then, after rebuking in various ways, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, therefore, in order to fully see the ten benefits, the training ground should be established for the hearers. Etc., as before. My hearers should recite the training ground in this way: If a monk encounters such a cause as watching an army, then that monk should stay in that army for up to two nights. If he stays longer than that, he commits a downfall. A monk refers to the group of six monks, or anyone else like them. It is the assembly of young children. The one who is armed is the one who is extremely happy in battle. The one who goes accordingly, means by what cause. If such a circumstance arises, it means being invited by the king, the queen, the young prince, the minister, the leader of the market, the people of the town, and the people of the region. The monk means which monk it is. In that army means in that armed army. One should stay up to two nights means one should stay up to the limit of two nights. If one stays longer than that means if one stays beyond that. A downfall means ripening in sentient beings in hell, animals, hungry ghosts, evil destinies, evil destinies, and inverted falls. Burning. Causing to fall. Furthermore, as long as this downfall is not confessed and not individually confessed, it obstructs virtuous dharmas, therefore it is said to be a downfall. How does one become a downfall in this? A monk, whenever he slightly exceeds two nights and stays in the army, completely becomes a downfall. If the king, the queen, the young prince, the minister, the leader of the market, the people of the town, and the people of the region say, 'Stay,' then there is no downfall. If one stays near any of the eight obstacles, then there is no downfall. There is no downfall for the beginner, the madman, the disturbed mind, and the one who is afflicted by feelings. The downfall of staying in the army, the forty-sixth is complete. The Blessed One Buddha was staying in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. Although the rock dweller was like that, he had not yet arrived, and King Prasenajit of Kosala said to Anathapindika the householder: Householder, do you not remember the children? Do you not remember the heavenly children? Thus, I wish to see the noble ones. King Prasenajit of Kosala sent a letter to the Sangha of monks saying: I wish to see the noble ones. Then the disciplinarian read the letter in the middle of the Sangha, and whoever is willing to go there, take a token.
