The one with life thought: If I were to accept them, it would be like cooking in a wooden vessel, my first would be my last. Thinking thus, he said: Brahmin, I have obtained a small amount of alms-dust, which I should enjoy completely. How can I accept what is given with faith and discard it? The Brahmin said: Noble One, the common practice of us Brahmins is that if we obtain something bad and then obtain something good, we abandon the bad and enjoy the good. 说道：圣者们，如果圣者们想让我建造寺庙，为了这个缘故，为了圣者僧团慈悲我，请将圣者僧团任命我为建造寺庙的负责人。那时，僧团中的具寿舍利子，作为僧团的住持，心想：即使不从六群中委任，也会让比丘们不高兴，如果被任命为负责人，就会让广大的比丘们不高兴。于是具寿舍利子对阿难陀说：具寿阿难陀，当我自己建造王舍城的园林时，也没有人任命我为负责人。当具寿大迦叶建造歌唱者的精舍时，也没有人任命他为负责人。如果你也想让人建造寺庙，就让他们在没有任命的情况下建造吧。具寿阿难陀心想：黑钵者们连见我们都不高兴，更何况是任命我为负责人呢？于是他去了那位婆罗门那里，拿了迦尔沙波拏，然后去了砖匠那里，说道：善良的人们，你们能在一天之内提供三层寺庙的砖头吗？他们说道：圣者，请给迦尔沙波拏，我们会反复提供。他就给了他们迦尔沙波拏。 阿难陀去了泥瓦匠那里，说道：善良的人们，你们能在一天之内完成三层寺庙的建造吗？圣者，请给迦尔沙波拏，我们会反复做好。他就给了他们迦尔沙波拏。 阿难陀去了木匠那里，说道：善良的人们，你们能在一天之内安装三层寺庙的木材吗？圣者，请给迦尔沙波拏，我们会反复砍削。他就给了他们迦尔沙波拏。 阿难陀去了粉刷匠那里，说道：善良的人们，你们能在一天之内粉刷三层寺庙吗？圣者，请给迦尔沙波拏，我们会反复粉刷。

He said: Holy ones, if the holy ones wish me to build a temple, for that reason, for the sake of the holy Sangha's compassion for me, please appoint me, the holy Ananda, as the person in charge of building the temple. Then, the venerable Shariputra, who was the abbot of the Sangha, thought: Even if I am not appointed from the group of six, it will make the monks unhappy, and if I am appointed as the person in charge, it will make the vast number of monks unhappy. So the venerable Shariputra said to Ananda: Venerable Ananda, when I myself had the garden of Rajagriha built, no one appointed me as the person in charge. When the venerable Mahakashyapa had the hermitage of the singers built, no one appointed him as the person in charge. If you also want people to build a temple, let them build it without being appointed. The venerable Ananda thought: The black-bowled ones are not even happy to see us, let alone appoint me as the person in charge? So he went to that Brahmin, took the Karshapanas, and then went to the bricklayers and said: Good people, can you provide the bricks for a three-story temple in one day? They said: Holy one, please give us the Karshapanas, and we will provide them repeatedly. So he gave them the Karshapanas. Ananda went to the plasterers and said: Good people, can you finish building a three-story temple in one day? Holy one, please give us the Karshapanas, and we will do it well repeatedly. So he gave them the Karshapanas. Ananda went to the carpenters and said: Good people, can you install the wood for a three-story temple in one day? Holy one, please give us the Karshapanas, and we will repeatedly hew it. So he gave them the Karshapanas. Ananda went to the painters and said: Good people, can you paint a three-story temple in one day? Holy one, please give us the Karshapanas, and we will repeatedly paint it.
