The nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, is that if they generate the worldly mind, then even creatures like ants can know the mind of the Blessed One with their minds, and if they generate the transcendental mind, then even the solitary Buddhas cannot know the mind of the Blessed One with their minds, let alone the Shravakas and so on. Then, Brahma and Indra and other gods thought: Why did the Blessed One generate the worldly mind? They saw that the Blessed One intended to teach the Dharma to the gods in that Brahmin's temple at midnight. Then, Indra and Brahma and other gods knew the mind of the Blessed One with their minds, just as a person's arm extends from bending or bends from extending, so Brahma and Indra and other gods disappeared from the realm of the gods, came before the Blessed One, bowed their heads to the two feet of the Blessed One, and sat down on one side. But this monastery of yours is used by the elder monks in the first watch of the night, and the Blessed One, Indra, Brahma, and other gods also use it in the middle watch of the night, so you have gained a great benefit. The venerable Ananda replied: As you command, venerable one. Having heard from the Blessed One, he went to where the Brahmin was, and having arrived, he said this to the Brahmin: Brahmin, the Blessed One said: Many gods and humans have dedicated to the Tathagata, and the monasteries that have been built are not used by the Tathagata. But this monastery of yours is used by the elder monks in the first watch of the night, and the Blessed One, Indra, Brahma, and other gods also use it in the middle watch of the night, so you have gained a great benefit. Venerable Ananda, has my monastery been used by the Blessed One? Brahmin, it has been used. Venerable Ananda, if my monastery has been used by the Blessed One, then I will offer an umbrella for each one for the sake of the Blessed One, and build monasteries just like this one.
