King Ajatashatru, the son of Vedehi, born in Magadha, wants to transport the wood that I gave him, please give it to me.' I said to him: 'Holy one, if the gods ask you to use this wood, then it is good to use it, please use it as you please.' Then he asked: 'Did he transport it? Or did he not transport it at all?' 'God, have you given the wood to anyone? Hey, Interior Officer, I haven't given it to anyone.' Thus spoke the great man belonging to the guardian of the wood. Then, King Ajatashatru, the son of Vedehi, born in Magadha, said to a man: 'Hey, Interior Officer, come here. Thus I have heard. In the past, the potter monk Dhanamitra was dwelling in a certain place. King Ajatashatru, the son of King Bimbisara, born in Magadha, said this: "Venerable one, is it permissible to take trees that have not been given?" He replied, "O King, it is not permissible." "Then why did you take them?" He replied, "They were given by the gods." "Venerable one, do you not remember? I thought the gods would care for me. O King, you inherited your father's kingdom and power, and not long after becoming the ruler, those ascetics and Brahmins in my realm who are known to be virtuous, who do not use grass, wood, and water that have not been given, from now on, let them use them comfortably!" Thus, he issued a supreme great command, fully accepted it, and truly roared the lion's roar in the assembly. O gods, do you know? Venerable one, I thought that was not fully accepted, so I said that, but this is fully accepted. O King, what will you do to those who have not fully accepted it for a while?" When he said this, King Ajatashatru, the son of King Bimbisara, born in Magadha, became furious, displeased, with three wrinkles appearing on his forehead, frowning, glaring, clasping his hands together, and said this: "Go away, ascetic, this is a reason to kill an ascetic, do not do that again!" Then, those knowledgeable attendants said, "King Ajatashatru, the son of King Bimbisara, born in Magadha, is so fierce, so stubborn, so powerful, so reckless, that he rebuked with meaningless words, saying, 'This is a reason to kill an ascetic,' it is so strange!" Then they shouted loudly and made a great noise. Then, the former potter monk Dhanamitra went to the monastery and said to the monks, "Venerable ones, King Ajatashatru, the son of King Bimbisara, born in Magadha, accused me of a false crime and threatened to take my life." The monks asked, "Why?" He told the monks the details of the matter. The monks reported it to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda:
