This is definitely so. And birth and decay are impossible. Like this, this itself and not other, therefore samsara is measurable, so it is said. Monks, for example, if someone asks about mango fruits, they will predict gourd fruits. If they ask about gourd fruits, they will predict mango fruits. Similarly, if I ask Mipam with tangled hair about the fruit of the path of practice that I have correctly seen, he will predict samsara itself. Monks, I think to myself, how should I, a wise man like myself, who respects beautiful forms, now openly slander a long-dwelling practitioner or Brahmin? Therefore, to what Mipam with tangled hair said, I neither praised nor slandered. Having neither praised nor slandered, I rose from my seat and went to where the naked Nirgrantha's son was. I said this to the naked Nirgrantha's son: Monk Nirgrantha's son, what are the worldly occupations and different crafts? Like this: garland makers, bamboo workers, weavers, grass-bundle makers, trainers, elephant riders, horse riders, louse riders, swordsmanship, archers, attendants, stone throwers, dancers, the king's sons, those who are brave and steadfast, pleasers, barbers, and bathers, they each perform actions through their own crafts and occupations, and give alms, do good deeds, heal, and enjoy the five desirable qualities, playing, laughing, and living happily. For such people, is it possible to posit the fruit of the path of practice that is correctly seen? When asked, he said: Great King, I see it this way, and I say this: whatever this person experiences individually, all comes from causes previously made. Old karma will be purified through asceticism, and new karma will be prevented by inaction. Therefore

Then from then on, there will be no more defilements. If there are no defilements, then karma is exhausted. If karma is exhausted, then suffering is exhausted. When suffering is exhausted, it will become the end of suffering, so it is said. Monks, for example, if someone asks about mango fruits and answers with gourd fruits, or asks about gourd fruits and answers with mango fruits. Similarly, when I asked the son of the naked ascetic relative about the fruits of the ascetic practice that are truly seen, he answered that it arises from previously done deeds. Monks, I thought to myself at that time: It is not fitting for someone wise like me to openly slander those ascetics or Brahmins who are well-respected and have long resided. Therefore, I neither praised nor slandered what the son of the naked ascetic relative said. Without praising or slandering, I rose from my seat and left. Then I went to where Katyayana's son Noka was. Having arrived, I said to Katyayana's son Noka: Monk Katyayana's son, what are the different kinds of worldly occupations and crafts? For example, garland makers, bamboo craftsmen, weavers, grass cutters, trainers, elephant riders, horse riders, chariot makers, swordsmanship, archers, attendants, dice players, dancers, and the sons of kings, those who are brave, strong, and courageous, as well as those who please others, barbers, and bathers, these people each make a living with their own crafts and occupations, and they give alms, do good deeds, heal diseases, enjoy the five sense pleasures, play, laugh, and live happily. For such people, is it possible to establish the fruit of the ascetic practice that is truly seen? I asked him that. Katyayana's son Noka said to me: Great King, this is how I see and speak: If someone comes to me and asks, "Is there a next life?" I say to him, "There is a next life."
