He will obtain the hell with ground. Even now, because this person did not listen to my words, he will obtain the hell of sentient beings without interruption. The monks became doubtful and asked the Blessed One, the Buddha, who cuts off all doubts. Venerable One, look at how Devadatta, who did not listen to the medicine spoken by the Blessed One, is indulging in uninterrupted suffering. The Blessed One said: Monks, it is not only like this now, but also in the past, because he did not listen to the beneficial words I spoke, know that he suffered in an improper way. Monks, in the past, there lived a wheel-making teacher in a certain valley. He took a wife who was equal in lineage, and he played with her, rejoiced with her, and enjoyed happiness together. He played with her, rejoiced with her, and enjoyed happiness together, and at some point, his wife became pregnant. When she was eight or nine months pregnant, she gave birth to a boy. After he was born, on the twenty-first day, he held a grand birth feast for the child and gave him a name that was in accordance with his lineage. He raised the child, and when the child grew up, his father died. After that, he began to learn the craft of making wheels from another wheelwright who lived in the valley. He asked for a daughter from a patron who lived in the valley. The patron said: If you come on a certain day, I will give you the daughter, otherwise I will not give her to you. He said to the wheelwright: Abbot, there is a patron living in a certain valley, and I went to ask him for his daughter, and he said that if I come on a certain day, he will give me the daughter, but if I don't come, he will not give her to me. The wheelwright said: Child, if that is the case, then I will go and ask for her myself. After saying this, he and the young man rode together on a wooden peacock and went to that valley on the appointed day, and the world was amazed to see it. After that, he asked for the girl, and then rode the wheel again and returned to his home, collected the wheel and gave it to his mother, and said: This son of yours

He was warned, "Because he knows the method of making the wheel go but does not know the method of returning, do not give him the wheel." He said to his mother again and again, "Mother, please give me the wheel, and I will rule the assembly of people." She said, "Son, your teacher said, 'Because this person knows the method of making the wheel go but does not know the method of returning, do not give it to him. Doing so is improper and will lead to suffering.' Therefore, I will not give it to you." He said, "Mother, I know both going and returning, but that teacher does not give it to me because of jealousy. Because women are soft-hearted and have great desires, she gave him the wheel, and he attached the wheel, rode it, and left. The great assembly of people was very happy. Then, the teacher of the wheel saw it and said, "Alas, he is gone and will not return." The more he twisted the wheel, the farther he flew, and soon he flew into the great ocean. Because the gods in the ocean constantly rain, the joints of the wheel loosened, and he suffered improperly. The gods spoke in verse: "Whoever seeks benefit with greed and affection, does not heed the words of such teachings, does not adjust and does not listen to anyone, that person will be carried away by a bird made of wood." Monks, what do you think? The teacher of the wheel at that time was myself. The student at that time was this Devadatta. At that time, I spoke words that were beneficial to him, but he did not listen to my words, and therefore he suffered improperly. Now I speak words that are beneficial to him, but he does not listen to my words, and therefore he has fallen into the Avici hell. The venerable Ananda asked the Buddha: "Venerable one, what is meant by the schism of the Sangha? What is meant by the harmony of the Sangha?" Ananda, if the monks act with the perception of non-dharma as dharma, the perception of dharma as non-dharma, and the perception of disharmony as harmony, this is called the schism of the Sangha.

Oṃ. Thus, when one performs actions with the perception of dharma in relation to dharma, and the perception of harmony in relation to harmony, this is called a harmonious saṅgha. Wherever one bhikkhu dwells, there will be no division of the saṅgha. Wherever two, three, up to eight dwell, there will also be no division of the saṅgha. Wherever nine or more bhikkhus come together, the saṅgha will be divided by two causes: the act of invitation and the taking of lots. What is the act of invitation? It is like this: Devadatta makes the bhikkhus aware, makes them universally aware, teaches them, and causes them to hold to it: 'The venerable Śramaṇa Gautama says this: by means of five bases of ascetic practice, bhikkhus become pure, liberated, detached, happy, and transcend suffering, and attain the transcendence of suffering.' Venerable ones, what are the five? A bhikkhu dwelling in a forest is himself pure, liberated, detached, happy, and transcends suffering, and attains the transcendence of suffering. Venerable ones, a bhikkhu dwelling under a tree, begging for alms, wearing three robes, wearing rags from the dustbin, is himself pure, liberated, detached, happy, and transcends suffering, and attains the transcendence of suffering.' If someone says, 'Venerable ones, those of you who cannot endure these five bases of ascetic practice, distance yourselves from Śramaṇa Gautama, separate yourselves, go far away.' This is called invitation. Such is the act of invitation. What is the taking of lots? It is like this: Devadatta makes the bhikkhus aware, makes them universally aware, teaches them, and causes them to hold to it: 'Venerable ones, Śramaṇa Gautama says this: by means of five bases of ascetic practice, bhikkhus become pure, liberated, detached, happy, and transcend suffering, and attain the transcendence of suffering.' Venerable ones, what are the five? A bhikkhu dwelling in a forest is himself pure,
