Miserly one, with sinful thoughts! Those with wrong views and disrespect! In the four gates, knowledge of, They obtain the Avici hell. Without harm and sinful deeds, Whoever is angry with the non-doer, In this world and the next as well, That sin will touch them. Whoever, with a vase of poison, Wishes to defile the ocean, That great, terrifying water reservoir, They cannot make it stink. Whoever speaks ill of the Thus-Gone One, To defile with bad words is the same. A mind of true view and peace, Which cannot be soiled by dust, Such a one is a spiritual friend, They should be relied upon by the wise. If one relies on such a one, It will be good and not sinful. The Blessed One spoke thus, and those monks were delighted and praised what the Blessed One had said. Then Devadatta, with wrong views that slander the noble ones, having cut off the roots of virtue, having gained certainty that there is no next world, taught the Dharma to the Shravakas based on five things: "Wise ones, the Shramana Gautama enjoys yogurt and milk, from now on we will not enjoy them. Why is that? Because that reason will harm the calves. The Shramana Gautama enjoys meat, we will not enjoy it. Why is that? Because that reason will cause beings to be killed. The Shramana Gautama enjoys salt, we will not enjoy it, because it comes from the dust. The Shramana Gautama wears cut cloths, we will wear long cut cloths. Why is that? Because that reason will cause the efforts of the weavers to become meaningless. The Shramana Gautama stays in monasteries, we will stay in villages. Why is that? Because that reason will cause people's generosity not to be enjoyed." Thus he teaches. Intermediate summary: Milk, meat, salt, clothes, and staying in monasteries. When the Blessed One was traveling and passed away, he came to Shravasti, and Devadatta thought: "It is good if I do a lot of harm to the Shramana Gautama."

Having failed to kill Gautama, he thought, 'Let me go and steal his wife,' and so he went to Kapilavastu. He said to Grakshajinma (Yasodhara), 'The ascetic Gautama has renounced the world, and I have come for your sake. Let us enjoy pleasure together.' Then he sent a message to the Earth Guardian Mother (Bhumidevi). The Earth Guardian Mother repeated his words. She said, 'If you want to seize the Bodhisattva from our hands, if you are also willing, then come here.' After he sent the message to her, that shameless person entered the palace. He climbed the stairs and saw the Earth Guardian Mother. The Earth Guardian Mother smiled and began to join her palms, and because she had great strength, she squeezed his fingers with her left hand, and blood flowed out. Then she threw him into the Bodhisattva's play pond. After he was thrown in, the Shakyas heard the commotion and ran, saying, 'Devadatta has entered the palace and is stealing the concubines.' They saw him thrown into the play pond and began to discuss, 'Shall we kill him?' Then they thought, 'Since he is already dead, this is better.' The Blessed One (Bhagavan) had already prophesied, 'This evil Devadatta will remain in hell for a kalpa and cannot be liberated.' So they drove him away, and he came out of a hole in the wall and fled, and his clothes were torn into two pieces. He thought, 'This is good, I can blame my disciples.' Later, he gathered the Shakyas and said, 'Let me rule the country.' They said, 'The Bodhisattva's concubine is still there, first take possession of her, and then rule the country.' Devadatta dispelled the Shakyas' doubts, climbed to the top of the mansion, went to the presence of the Fame Holder, joined his palms, and said, 'Listen to my command, do not worry, be my wife, and rule the country in Kapilavastu.' The Fame Holder, who possessed great power, stood up from the throne, grabbed his hands, and struck him with her knees, and blood flowed from his hands.

To. Then, being threatened by the feeling of suffering, the famous woman said: You are truly shameless and foolish! You can't even tolerate what she took from your hand, and you still want her? Will a Chakravartin or a Bodhisattva come from her family? After she scolded him like that, she came out of the palace. The Shakyas said: Go and ask the Blessed One for forgiveness! If the Blessed One forgives you, then afterwards you can rule the kingdom. He filled his fingernails with an extremely sharp poison called "calf's navel," and then went to where the Blessed One was. He thought: If the Shramana Gautama forgives me, that would be good. If he doesn't forgive me, then immediately kneel at his feet and smear his feet with the poison-filled fingernails. So, he knelt at the feet of the Blessed One and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, please forgive me! The Blessed One thought: With what kind of mind has this person come before me? Seeing that he had come with the intention to kill, the Blessed One then manifested the nature of crystal from the soles of his feet to the knees, and remained silent. The man began to scratch the feet of the Blessed One with his fingernails, but his own fingernails broke, and he was ashamed, so he prayed: Like you, those who take refuge in the Buddha will not fall into the lower realms. Therefore, I seek refuge in you. If I fall into the lower realms, then you are lying. For those who have completely created extremely violent karma, the destruction of the body does not stop, so while he was still alive, he was completely consumed by the flames of Avici hell, and Ananda was charred. Ananda was burned to death, and smoke began to rise. Then, the venerable Ananda, who was gentle and kind to his own people, compassionate, and full of love, said: Devadatta, quickly go and take refuge in the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha! That person, being threatened by the feeling of suffering and seeing the result of karma with his own eyes, from the depths of his heart
