At that time, the elephant carried the monkey, the monkey carried the rabbit, and the rabbit carried the one with the burnt treetop (name). They, these "increasing suffering" and so on, also had this thought: Wise ones, since we, these "increasing suffering" and so on, exist, let us temporarily acquire some other merit and then enter (the main topic). What should we do? The one with the burnt treetop said: We should return from killing. What is our killing like? The one with the burnt treetop said: There are leaves, flowers, fruits, etc., with living beings, and there are also those without living beings. Therefore, from now on, we should abandon those with living beings and enjoy those without living beings. In this way, they abandoned those with living beings and began to enjoy those without living beings. They thought in their hearts: Since we can return from killing, we cannot but return from not giving. Then, we should return from not giving. What is our not giving like? The one with the burnt treetop said: There are roots, leaves, flowers, fruits, etc., with roots and stems, and there are also those without roots and stems. Therefore, from now on, we should abandon those with roots and stems and enjoy those without roots and stems. In this way, they abandoned those with roots and stems and began to enjoy those without roots and stems. They thought in their hearts: Since we can return from not giving, we cannot but return from sexual misconduct. Then, we should return from sexual misconduct. What is our sexual misconduct like? The one with the burnt treetop said: We go to both permissible and impermissible places. Therefore, from now on, we should only go to permissible places and not go to impermissible places. In this way, they only went to permissible places and did not go to impermissible places. They thought in their hearts: Since we can return from sexual misconduct, we cannot but return from lying. Then, we should return from lying.
