became. At that time, these people did not read, did not recite, and did not get used to thinking with their minds. However, they ate the offerings given with faith, and after eating, they indulged in noise and spent their time lazily. Monks, what do you think? Those five hundred monks are these five hundred farmers. The owner of the monastery is the householder who owns these farmers. These people ate the offerings given with faith by the owner of the monastery, did not read, did not recite, did not get used to thinking with their minds, indulged in noise, and spent their time lazily. Because of this karma, they became farmers of the monastery owner for five hundred lifetimes, and until now they are still born as farmers. These people had previously renounced the world under the teaching of the perfectly enlightened Buddha of Light and practiced pure conduct, so now they have renounced the world under my teaching, abandoned all defilements, and directly realized the state of an Arhat. Previously, those sons of gods who drove oxen had also renounced the world under the teaching of the perfectly enlightened Buddha of Light. These people then violated the subtle precepts, and because of this karma, they were born as oxen. Because they developed great faith in me, they were born as gods. Because they practiced and guarded pure conduct under the perfectly enlightened Buddha of Light, they have now become sons of gods and have seen the truth. Monks, therefore, for purely black deeds, the result of their maturation is also purely black, and one should strive in this way. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. After saying this, the content up to "one should strive" is as before. Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, let us go to where there is water. Venerable one, as you say, the venerable Ananda listened to the instructions of the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One went to the water. In another direction, a Brahmin was plowing the field. At that time, that Brahmin saw the Buddha, the Blessed One, whose body was fully endowed with the thirty-two marks of a great man,

From "recitation" to "seeing all that is virtuous," it is as previously stated. He thought: "If I go to pay homage to the wise Gautama, I will lose my job. But if I don't go to pay homage, my merit will be completely lost. So, what method can I use to neither lose my job nor completely lose my merit?" He came up with an idea: "If I pay homage while staying right here, I won't lose my job, and my merit won't be completely lost." So, holding his whip with barbs, he paid homage to the Blessed One Buddha while staying in the same place, saying, "I prostrate." Then, the Blessed One said to the venerable Ananda: "Ananda, this Brahmin has made a mistake. If he had the wisdom to know that in this direction of Pabila, there is an indestructible stupa of relics of the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Light, he should have come before me and paid homage. In that case, Pabila would have paid homage to two Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas. Why? Ananda, because in this direction, there is an indestructible stupa of relics of the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Light." Then, the venerable Ananda quickly folded and spread out four monastic robes and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, please be seated on the prepared seat. In this way, this place will be enjoyed by two Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas, one being the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Light, and the other being the current Blessed One. Please be seated on the prepared seat, Blessed One." After being seated, the Blessed One said to the monks: "Monks, do you wish to see the indestructible stupa of relics of the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Light?" "Blessed One, now is the time. Sugata, now is the time. If the Blessed One shows the indestructible stupa of relics of the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha Light to the monks, the monks' minds will become even more devoted."

So it is. The Blessed One generated the thought of the world. In the nature of Dharma, when the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, generated the thought of the world, even creatures such as ants would know the intention of the Blessed One with their minds. The Nagas thought, "Why did the Blessed One generate the thought of the world?" They saw that the Blessed One wished to see the relics of the Fully Enlightened Buddha Light Protector that had not been destroyed. Then they extracted the relics of the Fully Enlightened Buddha Light Protector that had not been destroyed. Then the Blessed One said to the monks, "Monks, the twin signs! They will disappear," and they disappeared. King Sheng Guang heard that the Blessed One had shown the relics of the Fully Enlightened Buddha Light Protector that had not been destroyed to the Shravakas. Having heard this, he was also filled with wonder and went with his consorts, youths, ministers, market leaders, villagers, and townspeople. Likewise, the noble Body, the householder Anathapindika, the sage Dana, the old brickmakers, the mother of the beast holder Sakya, and hundreds of thousands of beings, all went because they were filled with wonder. Some were motivated by the good roots of previous lives, and soon disappeared. They heard that the relics of the Fully Enlightened Buddha, the Blessed One Light Protector, that had not been destroyed had disappeared. Having heard this, they thought, "Our coming here has become meaningless," and they felt pain and displeasure. A lay devotee circumambulated that place and thought in his heart, "How much merit will I accumulate by walking in this place?" Then, in order to dispel the regret that arose in that great assembly of beings, and also knowing the thoughts of that lay devotee, the Blessed One spoke in verse: "Whoever is a wise person who thinks well, takes a step towards the Buddha's stupa."
