If I could obtain the kingdom according to the Dharma, would everything come here? The youth took the jeweled ground and the lion throne from the place called 'Nui's Front, Harmful Spirit's Abode.' Those who were in the palace also brought umbrellas, crowns, and armlets, and came to the palace themselves. Because they came themselves, it was called 'Settled, Settled.' Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda: Ananda, where do you want to go? The monk replied: As the Lord commands. The Venerable Ananda listened to the Blessed One's teachings. Then, the Blessed One set out from Shravasti, and when he reached a certain place, a Brahmin was plowing the field without having eaten. A girl was bringing him porridge for that purpose. The Blessed One also went in that direction. Then, the Brahmin saw the body of the Buddha, the Blessed One, adorned with the thirty-two marks of a great being, beautified with the eighty minor marks, surrounded by a fathom of light, with rays exceeding a thousand suns, beautiful like a walking jewel mountain. As soon as he saw the Blessed One, he developed faith in the Blessed One, just as a sentient being who has accumulated roots of virtue sees the Buddha for the first time, just as cultivating calm abiding for twelve years gives rise to a workable mind, a childless person finds a child, a poor person sees a treasure trove, and one who delights in kingship receives the empowerment of kingship. He took the porridge and quickly went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, he said to the Blessed One: O Gautama, this is porridge. If the wise Gautama has compassion for me, please partake of it. Then, the Blessed One pointed out an old well to the Brahmin and said: Brahmin, if you are going to discard it, pour it into this old well. He poured the porridge into that old well, and as he poured the porridge into that old well, in this way, by the power of the Buddhas and the power of the gods, that old well was filled with porridge and steam rose from it.

As he began to give alms, the Blessed One blessed it so that even if all the Sangha drank, the old well would still be full of porridge, and the steam would be rising. After that, the Brahmin developed even greater faith, prostrated at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat before him to listen to the Dharma. The Blessed One, knowing his thoughts, habits, faculties, and nature, taught him the Dharma that corresponded to him, which would enable him to realize the Four Noble Truths individually, starting from "Thus," and continuing until "The twenty peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates, accumulated from beginningless time, have been destroyed by the vajra of wisdom, and the fruit of stream-entry has been manifestly realized. Venerable, I have attained the holy fruit! I have attained the supreme holy fruit!" are the same as before. "I take refuge in the Blessed One, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks. Please accept me as a lay follower. From now on, until the end of my life, I will take refuge with unwavering faith, even at the cost of my life." After that, the Brahmin was overjoyed with the words spoken by the Blessed One, just like a merchant who had gained profit, a farmer who had a good harvest, a hero who had won on the battlefield, and a sick person who had been freed from all diseases. He rejoiced and praised, and bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One, and then left from before the Blessed One. When he arrived at the field, he saw that golden rice ears had grown in that field. After seeing this, he was very surprised and widened his eyes, and said in verse: Alas, field of virtuous nature! For the field that has completely abandoned all faults! I planted the seeds today, Today I obtained the fruit. Then, that Brahmin hurried to the king, performed the sowing, victory, and longevity rituals, and said to the king, "Your Majesty, those things that I have given and bestowed have turned into golden rice ears, please send someone to inspect them." Then he said to that Brahmin: Brahmin, this is all because of your merit! Give me the king's share, and give me what you have estimated! After that, the Brahmin was very happy, and the things he gave turned into golden barley ears. After that, the Blessed One passed away. After some time, in another place, there were five hundred dark-skinned, stout farmers with chapped hands and feet, wearing coarse cloth skirts, plowing the fields. Those plowing were also whipped with thorny whips, their bodies were injured and festering, and they were groaning as they plowed the fields. Those farmers saw the Buddha, the Blessed One, whose body was adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being, beautified by the eighty minor marks, surrounded by a fathom of light, whose rays surpassed a thousand suns, and who was as perfect as a walking jewel mountain. From "Sentient beings who have accumulated roots of virtue first see the Buddha" to "the interval is the same as before." Then, they went to where the Blessed One was, and the Blessed One saw those farmers coming from afar. Having seen them, in order to tame them, the Blessed One moved aside on the road and sat down on the seat prepared in the midst of the Sangha of monks. Then, those farmers bowed their heads to the feet of the Blessed One and sat on one side. Then, the Blessed One, knowing the thoughts, habits, faculties, and inclinations of those farmers, taught them the Dharma that was in accordance with them and that would enable them to realize the Four Noble Truths individually. From "The twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates, accumulated from beginningless time, were destroyed by the vajra of wisdom, and the fruit of stream-entry was directly realized" to "They saw the truth."
