Knowing that it was not appropriate, he said to the venerable Protector of the Land: "Protector of the Land, go! Those sentient beings who have not been delivered, deliver them! Those who have not been liberated, liberate them! Those who have not breathed their last, let them breathe their last! Those who have not completely passed beyond sorrow, let them completely pass beyond sorrow!" Then the venerable Protector of the Land, greatly delighted and pleased by the words of the Blessed One, bowed his head at the two feet of the Blessed One and departed from the presence of the Blessed One. Then, after that night had passed, the venerable Protector of the Land, in the morning, having put on his lower garment, and taking his bowl and robes, went to Shravasti for alms. Having practiced alms in Shravasti, and having done the work of eating, he returned from the afternoon alms, arranged his dwelling as usual, took his bowl and robes, and went to where the Thick Storehouse was. Gradually practicing and walking, he arrived at the Thick Storehouse, and stayed in the Thick Storehouse Grove of the Thick Storehouse. Then, after that night had passed, the venerable Protector of the Land, in the morning, having put on his lower garment, and taking his bowl and robes, went to the Thick Storehouse for alms. Gradually going for alms from the Thick Storehouse, he went to where his own house was. At that time, the father of the venerable Protector of the Land was in the porch of the door, and a barber was dressing his hair and beard. The father of the venerable Protector of the Land saw the venerable Protector of the Land standing at the door. Having seen him, he began to scold: "These shaven-headed ascetics have cut off the lineage of my family! They have caused my only son, beloved, pleasing, obedient, and agreeable, Protector of the Land, to go forth and be fully ordained! Who would think of giving alms to these shaven-headed ascetics?" Then the venerable Protector of the Land did not receive any alms from his own house, not even a handful, and he was driven out, and he quickly departed. A old maidservant was about to throw away some stale, rotten, and rancid food, and was coming to the door. The Venerable Dhritarashtra saw the former old maidservant. Having seen her, he said these words to the old maidservant: Sister, if you are going to throw away the stale, rotten, and rancid food, please put it in my alms bowl. Noble one, please partake! Then, as the former old maidservant was putting the stale, rotten food into the alms bowl, the Venerable Dhritarashtra carefully observed the marks of her hands, feet, face, nose, and teeth, and also said this: Are you the king's son, Dhritarashtra? Sister, I know that people know it that way. Then, the former old maidservant hurriedly went to where the Venerable Dhritarashtra's father was, and having gone, she said these words to the Venerable Dhritarashtra's father: Master, please know! Your son Dhritarashtra has been gone to the treasury for a long time, and does not wish to return to your residence. Then, the Venerable Dhritarashtra's father, gathering his hair with his left hand, as if wearing a lower garment of a single cloth, went to where the Venerable Dhritarashtra was. At that time, the Venerable Dhritarashtra was sitting by a wall, eating stale, rotten, and rancid food. Then, the Venerable Dhritarashtra's father said these words to the Venerable Dhritarashtra: Dhritarashtra, you have been gone to the treasury for a long time, why do you not want to return to your own home? How can stale, rotten, and rancid food go down your throat? Householder, when you come to your home, you do not receive any alms except for crows, and you are driven away without being driven away, and you come quickly. Son, I did not know that you were Dhritarashtra. If I had known, I would not have said that. Son Dhritarashtra, please forgive me! Householder, I forgive you. Then, the Venerable Dhritarashtra's father embraced the Venerable Dhritarashtra with all his limbs and brought him to a seat prepared in his own home.
