Gautama, these Shakyas are only upstarts. Because they are of an upstart lineage, they do not treat Brahmins as gurus, with respect, and do not make offerings. Brahmin son, have the Shakyas done you any harm? O Gautama, once, for the sake of myself and my Khenpo, I went on foot to the site of Kapilavastu. There, the Shakyas and Shakya women went up to the top of the mansion and pointed at me with their fingers, saying: 'Alas, Brahmin, disciple of the heart of the lotus, the Brahmin son is ugly!' They only pointed at me with their fingers, and did not show me respect, guru, respect, and offerings. Brahmin son, even a small bird can chirp as it pleases in its own nest, what need is there to mention the Shakyas? Brahmin son, like this, the site of Kapilavastu is their own, belonging to the Shakyas. O Gautama, there are four castes: Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra. O Gautama, these four castes respect Brahmins, treat them as gurus, respect them, and make offerings. However, these Shakyas are only upstarts. Because they are of an upstart lineage, they do not respect Brahmins, do not treat them as gurus, do not respect them, and do not make offerings. Then, the Blessed One thought: Alas, this ugly Brahmin son is saying to the Shakyas: 'Alas, the Shakyas are upstarts!' Alas, the Shakyas are of an upstart lineage, knowing that they are upstarts, he speaks so harshly. I should search for his previous lineage. Then, the Blessed One searched for the previous lineage of the ugly Brahmin son, and saw that the ugly Brahmin son was the son of a Shakya's slave girl, and the Shakyas were the sons of his master. Then, the Blessed One said this to the ugly Brahmin son: Brahmin son, what is your lineage? Gautama, I am the son of the unblinking one. Brahmin son, if I search for your previous lineage from here, you are the

甘蔗生国王有四个儿子,分别是星面(skar ma'i gdong)、手耳(lag rna)、象灰(glang po che'i thal gong)和足钏(rkang rgyan ldan)。

was seen as the son of a slave woman. Then, the elder Brahmins of high status addressed the Blessed One as follows: "O Gautama, do not use the term 'son of a slave woman' to refer to the Brahmin boy Madga. Why is that? Because the Brahmin boy Madga is very learned, his words are clear, and he speaks without hindrance. The Brahmin boy Madga is capable of answering the wise Gautama on this matter in accordance with the Dharma." Brahmins, if you think that the Brahmin boy Madga is capable of answering me in accordance with the Dharma, then do not speak, but let the Brahmin boy Madga answer me on this matter in accordance with the Dharma. Brahmins, if you think that the Brahmin boy Madga is not capable of answering me on this matter in accordance with the Dharma, then let the Brahmin boy Madga not speak, but you answer me on this matter in accordance with the Dharma. "O Gautama, the Brahmin boy Madga is very learned, his words are clear, and he speaks without hindrance. The Brahmin boy Madga is capable of answering the wise Gautama on this matter in accordance with the Dharma, but others are not." Then, the Blessed One said to the Brahmin boy Madga: "Brahmin boy, in the past there was a king named Ikshvaku (Bu-ram shing skyes). King Ikshvaku had four sons, namely Star-face (skar ma'i gdong), Hand-ear (lag rna), Elephant-ash (glang po che'i thal gong), and Ankle-bracelet (rkang rgyan ldan). King Ikshvaku was expelled for some faults, and they each took their own sisters, and moved from one place to another, gradually reaching the direction of the Snow Mountains (Himalayas), where they gave birth to boys and girls at a place called Kaladana River (chu bo skal ldan shing rta'i 'gram na)." Then King Ikshvaku said to the ministers: "Hey, villagers, Can the young men do that?" "The gods can do it." Then King Ikshvaku praised them and stretched out his right hand, saying specifically, saying specifically: "Oh, the young men can do it." Because they were considered powerful sentient beings, the young men could do it.
