Oh, because of the rank, he got a high bed. Fearing damage, he slept without even turning over. Venerable Nanda, have you checked the eight-layered bedding mattress like this? It has been checked well. It has been checked very carefully. Where is it forbidden? Who forbade it? If it has been checked, then torment him with poverty and let him leave. Nanda said: Can I, with my big belly, control the country of Kosala? Send it to the monastery and give it away. He gave them eight people. Four of them carried the bedding mattresses, and four carried the bed. They walked through the middle of the street and were seen by the desire Brahmins and householders. After seeing them, they also asked: Wise ones, where is the divine bedding being made today? Nanda said: In your palace. Where are these beddings being carried? Nanda said: These are all what I got. Wise ones, is the Shramana Nanda deluded by the merits of desire? They scolded, mocked, and reviled him like this. After he went to the monastery, he cleaned the monastery, swept the floor, smeared the ground with cow dung, arranged the dwelling, and was about to sleep when the Blessed One also came in that direction. He felt joy and reported to the Blessed One like this: Venerable, please take a look at how I have arranged the dwelling. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, the person who hides corruption from the beginning should be known as the foolish person Nanda. The Blessed One thought: What fault has occurred? That is that the monks sleep on high beds and seats. Therefore, monks should not sit on high beds and seats. If they sit, they will commit a serious crime. After the Blessed One said that monks should not sit on high beds and seats, another householder invited the Buddha and other monks to his home and began to arrange high beds and seats. The venerable Ananda arrived early, saw him arranging high beds and seats, and said to him: Householder, these beds and seats are for the monks and

Gather up what is not suitable. As he began to gather those things, the Blessed One also arrived there. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was knowingly cultivating. The Buddha, the Blessed One, greeted the Venerable Ananda: Ananda, what are you doing? Blessed One, this householder has prepared seats suitable for great people, and I told him that these householder's cushions are not suitable for monks, and asked him to gather them up, and he is gathering them. Ananda, not everyone has wealth. Ananda, do not prevent the householder from laying out cushions. Therefore, it is permitted to sit on a high bed at home, but do not sleep there. Do not sit in the temple either. Do not sleep either, for if you sit or sleep, it will constitute a serious offense. From the south came a monk holding the three robes, to Jetavana to prostrate at the feet of the Blessed One, and Nears Delight saw his good leather seat and said to him: Almsman, give me the leather, I am going to prostrate at the feet of the Blessed One. He said: Venerable Nears Delight, whether you go or not, I have come here to prostrate at the feet of the Blessed One. Almsman, what do you think? Nears Delight thought: Can't I find such leather? Look at my gains! Venerable Nears Delight, because you can get it, I will not give it to you. The cowherd of King Prasenajit of Kosala, named Great, was acquainted with the Venerable Nears Delight, so he went to him. It was then the summer season, and many beautiful calves were born. He smeared oil on the back of one calf, and Great said: Venerable Nears Delight, would you like to drink the milk of this calf's mother? He said: I would like to drink it, but a monk who has such leather will happily strive for virtue from a young age. Great said: Venerable Nears Delight, please accept my words and depart. After he left, Great told the herdsman: Kill this calf, and you take the leather to the Venerable Nears Delight.

Offer it to him. That person killed the calf, took the skin, and left. The cow, grieving for the calf, cried out and followed after it, entering the Jeta Grove. The cow stood at the gate of the Jeta Grove, crying out. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, speak knowingly. The Buddha, the Bhagavat, asked the Venerable Ananda: Ananda, why is this cow crying out at the gate of the Jeta Grove? The Venerable Ananda replied: Bhagavat, the monk Nanda killed the calf in order to obtain its skin, and therefore the cow is crying out at the gate of the Jeta Grove. The Bhagavat said: What fault has occurred? It is because the monks are carrying leather. Therefore, monks should not carry leather. If they do, they will commit a grave offense. After the Bhagavat said that monks should not carry leather, another householder invited the Buddha and the Sangha of monks to his house for a meal. But the householder had no other cushions to spread out, so he began to spread out leather cushions. The Venerable Ananda arose early the next morning and went to the householder's house. Seeing the householder spreading out the leather cushions, he said: Householder, these cushions are not suitable for monks, please put them away. As he began to put them away, the Bhagavat also arrived there. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, speak knowingly. The Buddha, the Bhagavat, asked the Venerable Ananda: Ananda, what are you doing? The Venerable Ananda replied: This householder had no other cushions to spread out, so he spread out leather cushions. I told the householder that these cushions are not suitable for monks, please put them away. He is putting away these cushions. Ananda, because not everyone is without means, Ananda, do not prevent the householder from spreading out cushions. Therefore, it is permitted to sit on leather cushions spread out in a house, but not to lie down. In a monastery, one should not sit,
