Furthermore, if relatives come to a monk who has vowed to observe the summer retreat and entreat him with unpleasant words, saying, 'Venerable, why do you shave your head and carry a begging bowl, wandering from village to village of different castes, and this cold monastic robe also causes your body to suffer? Venerable, come here, enjoy your desires, give alms, do good deeds!' Then, the monk who has vowed to observe the summer retreat thinks to himself, 'Because I have vowed to observe the summer retreat in this place, my relatives have come to me and entreat me with unpleasant words, saying, 'Venerable, why do you shave your head and carry a begging bowl, wandering from village to village of different castes, and this cold monastic robe also causes your body to suffer? Venerable, come here, enjoy your desires, give alms, do good deeds!' If I observe the summer retreat in this place, then this will become an obstacle to my life, an obstacle to the way of monasticism, and an obstacle to celibacy. I should leave this place.' Therefore, because of this reason, he leaves that place, and even if he breaks the summer retreat, there is no downfall. Furthermore, if a king leads an army of four fully equipped divisions, namely, elephants, horses, chariots, and infantry, and arrives at the gate of the monastery, shouting threats and saying, 'Wise ones, seize the Shakyaputra ascetics!' From there, just as it was said above in the basis of the confession, it should be fully and completely stated. Then, the monk who has vowed to observe the summer retreat thinks to himself, 'If I vow to observe the summer retreat in this place, then the king leads an army of four fully equipped divisions, namely, elephants, horses, and so on, just as it was said above.' If I observe the summer retreat in this place, then this will become an obstacle to my life, an obstacle to the way of monasticism, and an obstacle to celibacy. I should leave this place.'

Is it a woman? Or relying on which hermaphrodite to vow to stay in retreat, was that person captured by the king? Was he imprisoned? Was he killed? Was his property robbed? Did he go to another place because of the king's fear, or did he flee to another place or die? Then the bhikkhu who vowed to stay in retreat thought like this: I, either a man, or a woman, or relying on which hermaphrodite to vow to stay in retreat here, was that person captured by the king? Was he imprisoned? Was he killed? Was his property robbed? Did he go to another place because of the king's fear, or did he flee to another place or die? If I stay in retreat here, then that person will become an obstacle to my life, an obstacle to practicing virtue, and an obstacle to pure conduct. I will leave this place, thinking like this. Therefore, because of such a reason, leaving that place, then breaking the retreat has no transgression. Like this, robbers plunder villages, or plunder cities, or plunder regions, and then arrive at the gate of the monastery, did they kill a cow? Did they kill a buffalo? Did they kill a sheep, smear their limbs with blood, and then send a message to the bhikkhus saying: Venerable ones, come out! We are staying here. Then the bhikkhu who vowed to stay in retreat thought like this: If I stay in retreat here, then these robbers plunder villages... until what was said above. Therefore, because of such a reason, leaving that place, then breaking the retreat has no transgression. Like this, a bhikkhu relies on a woman, or a man, or which hermaphrodite to vow to stay in retreat, was that person captured by robbers? Was he imprisoned? Was he killed? Was his property robbed? Did he go to another place because of the robbers' fear, or did he flee to another place or die?
