། །The sixth chapter, on offerings and accumulating merit. Thus, when accumulating merit and so on, the instructions on the arising of demons should be taught. Demons are of two kinds: the maturation of karmic imprints and temporary obstacles. Among these, there are outer and inner. The outer is for faithful individuals, parents, Khenpos, relatives, friends, and retinues, leading them onto the wrong path through peace. The six aggregates become attached to the six objects, and the essences, such as white and red, become clear and unstable, which are signs of demons. Pleasant and unpleasant sounds cause the decline of samadhi. These are taught as the abodes of demons. When abiding in samadhi, they criticize with the reasoning of no self-nature, show little to those with much, and show small to those with great. Knowing the opposite of this, they show others to those of the white kind, show non-profundity to those of the profound kind, and show profundity to those of the non-profound kind. To those of the liberated kind, they show the path of attachment, and to those of attachment, they also show the opposite. To those with signs, they also perfect signlessness. Actual emanations of Buddhas, adorned with gold and turquoise, suppress the paths with dust, diligently proclaim all scriptures, and also ridicule the path of enlightenment for sentient beings, giving instructions such as these with all meanings without exception. This is said to be the outer demon. The actions of the inner demon are also: at the time of meditation and samadhi, etc., generating gatherings and changing thoughts, the accumulation of wind, bile, and phlegm, generating what is not there and wrong thoughts, not trusting the holy ones, not trusting thoughts constantly, being attached to the inferior, concealing anger and resentment, jealousy, stinginess, etc., afflictions and near afflictions, arising and changing during meditation, etc., wrong knowledge, contemplating the nine, generating extreme cruelty and violence, arousing conditions with previous fruits, constantly glaring eyes, likewise arrogance and lust, despondency and lust, abandoning worldly wrong teachings and lamas. This is also being deceived by demons. When meditation is interrupted, it is not clear, not liking virtue and trusting wrong, being more attached to food and drink than before, therefore, being delighted in worldly conduct, relying on one's own lineage of mudras, from this arising afflictions, being attached and power being robbed, the six aggregates
