Recite the short generation stage three times a day and meditate on loving-kindness. Protect the vows you have taken and benefit sentient beings. Abandon the four black dharmas: do not deceive the guru and those worthy of offerings; do not regret the merits and other good deeds done by yourself and others; do not speak harsh words to bodhisattvas; do not deceive sentient beings. Practice the four white dharmas: knowingly do not lie; lead all sentient beings to the Great Vehicle; generate the perception of a Buddha towards bodhisattvas who have generated bodhicitta, and praise their qualities; be without deceit towards all sentient beings, and abide in superior intention. Because aspiration and engagement are done simultaneously, the trainings of engaging bodhicitta are the three trainings, which are summarized into the six perfections. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras, "Having mastered the three trainings, the Victorious Ones have truly explained the six perfections." Therefore, generosity, discipline, and patience have been slightly discussed in the section on the benefits of merit, which is sufficient. Diligence is in the section on removing obstacles, concentration is calm abiding, and wisdom is insight, so it is actually complete, and there is no need to discuss it here. Here, we will discuss the benefits of bodhicitta, which is relevant to the present. As Arya Maitreya said to Sudhana in the Array of Trees Sutra, "Son of good family, the mind of enlightenment is like the seed of all the Buddha's dharmas; it increases all white dharmas, like a field; it is relied upon by all worlds, like the earth; it cuts off all poverty, like Vaishravana; it fulfills all hopes, like a wish-fulfilling tree; it accomplishes all purposes, like a wish-fulfilling jewel." And so on, it is widely proclaimed. In the Sutra on Repaying Kindness, it says, "If bodhicitta is not generated, it will never be attained; therefore, if bodhicitta is generated, one will attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment." And in the Sutra Requested by Lion King, it says, "For the sake of liberating all sentient beings, turning the mind towards enlightenment, this is the supreme method of gathering all dharmas, one will attain joy." And in the Secret Sutra of the Tathagata, it says, "The mind of enlightenment..."

If that merit had a form, even the expanse of the sky would not be able to contain it; that amount of merit would be even greater. All the merit of all sentient beings, taking as much of it as possible, that many bodhisattvas will arise with bodhicitta. Furthermore, the Sutra Requested by Glorious Giving says: If someone were to fill all Buddha-fields, as many as the grains of sand in the Ganges River, with the seven precious substances and offer them to the protector of the world, it would be better than if someone were to join their palms together and generate bodhicitta. This offering is superior to that, and its merit has no limit. Furthermore, the Sutra Requested by Ocean of Intelligence says: These three offerings are the unsurpassed offerings to the Tathagata: generating the mind of enlightenment, upholding the sacred Dharma, and having compassion for all living beings. Furthermore, from the Bodhicharyavatara: The moment bodhicitta is generated, one instantly becomes a child of the Buddhas, worthy of reverence by the world, and worthy of offerings by gods and humans. Like the supreme elixir that transforms gold, abandoning this impure body, one obtains the priceless treasure of Buddhahood, so one should firmly hold onto bodhicitta. Other virtues are like banana trees, bearing fruit only to perish, but the bodhicitta tree constantly produces fruit without diminishing. Even if one has committed extremely heavy sins, by relying on the brave one, one can destroy great fears. Why not rely on that? It is like the fire at the end of an eon, which can burn away all sins in an instant. It is also the supreme nectar that destroys death, the inexhaustible treasure that eliminates poverty, the good physician that cures all suffering, and the great sun that dispels the darkness of ignorance for those who are exhausted from dangerous paths. Thus, from now until the time of sleep, or even if one is heedless, the power of merit will constantly and uninterruptedly arise like the sky. What is extremely important for all the Buddha's children is to not generate evil deeds, and virtuous deeds will spontaneously increase. At that time, there will be a result, and one will be able to obtain a good human body.
