It is said that even in the cold winter, the sun will rise. Although the focus of meditation is on the inseparability of the three—channels, bindu, and prana—at this time, the main focus is on prana and tummo. The signs of controlling prana are: the number of times prana flows outward decreases, which means that prana is under control. Controlling length means that the length of the breath becomes shorter when exhaling. Controlling strength means that the force of outward flow decreases. If one can know the respective colors of the five elements of prana flowing from the nostrils, it means that one has controlled the colors. It is said that if the energies of the respective elements dissolve, it means that one has controlled the strength. Furthermore, the signs of controlling prana include: warmth arises in the body, the body trembles, the speed increases, the body becomes as light as cotton, the flow of breath is not perceived by oneself or others, prana does not move, one does not develop attachment to food and clothing, one continuously experiences bliss, clarity, and non-thought, and the realization of self-born great bliss arises. If one gains stability in it, even falling into a precipice will not harm one, one will not be controlled by demons, and all appearances will naturally be understood as dreamlike illusions. Because prana and awareness are controlled, external appearances and existence are controlled. It is said that vajra-like samadhi will arise, and so on, producing limitless benefits. Warmth, in general, refers to the actual arising of the signs and benefits of whatever dharma one practices. But here, warmth refers to the sign of meditating on the fire of tummo, which is that the body feels a warm touch. However, even if the warmth of heat does not arise, if other signs and qualities such as the samadhi of bliss, clarity, and non-thought arise, it is considered that warmth has arisen. The scripture says: The special dharma of unsurpassed means is extremely profound and swift, so that whether one is old or young, male or female, sharp or dull-witted, all can attain Buddhahood. Therefore, if one practices channels, prana, and tummo, if experience and realization arise, they will arise. Even if one is old, warmth and so on may not arise, but the power of realization will arise. Therefore, for hundreds of elderly people, if they are interested in this and happy to engage in it, even if the signs of power do not appear temporarily, there is a connection for realizing the essence of the meaning, and instructions are given. This is what the Great Master of Oddiyana (Padmasambhava) said. Similarly, even without relying on sexual activity with other bodies, practicing channel-prana is the best, it is the abode of celibate practitioners.

Those of intelligent lineage should know that they are suitable vessels for this supreme practice. If one possesses both inner and outer meaning, and has mastery over profound meaning, it is said that they are the embodiment of Vajradhara who understands the key points. From fifteen to twenty-four years old is youth, when the energy of the channels and winds is not yet complete. If nourishment, food, and clothing are good, the energy of the channels and winds may be complete from eighteen or twenty years old. From twenty-five to forty-five is adulthood; if one practices at this time, signs will quickly appear. Those with fortune and karma are said to be able to practice even after the age of eight. After forty-five, the channels and winds decline due to aging, but for those with a good constitution, the channels and winds may not decline until fifty or fifty-five, so signs may still appear. Those with consumption, paralysis, leprosy, scabies, and eczema should not practice because their illnesses are severe. Those with madness, epilepsy, fainting, great demonic obstacles, and those with narrow minds and Hinayana dispositions, whose minds cannot contain it and who are prone to wrong views, and if taught to monks who have broken their vows, they will use the channels and winds as a pretext to lead others astray, so it is said that they are not suitable vessels for this. Therefore, if there are no such faults and one is young, has received empowerment and maturation, possesses profound instructions, and can achieve enlightenment in as little time as the Buddha, such an opportunity occurs only once in billions of kalpas. Thus, if one practices for three days, one should repeat that dharma session. This is the fourth dharma session. Then, in the fifth dharma session, what should be understood is that, as some tantras say regarding the six or seven chakras, the co-emergent chakra on the forehead is said to exist like sunlight. However, according to other methods, the upper end of the central channel curves down from the top of the head and stops at the eyebrow, and one practices bindu within a triangular bone, etc. But according to this system, by focusing on the central channel at the eyebrow, it is equivalent to practicing the co-emergent channel-wheel at the eyebrow. Also, if one does not occasionally keep in mind even small visualizations for dispelling obstacles, one does not know when obstacles will arise. At that time, it is also difficult to have the lama and scriptures nearby. Therefore, obstacles may arise when purifying bad karma by practicing the channels and winds, or due to past karma, inauspicious influences, improper diet and behavior, or harm from spirits, the result ripens into illness and discomfort in the body.
