The medium ones number thirty thousand. The lowest are said to be three thousand. Even under the rule of one great continent, it is uncertain whether the number of those who have obtained a human body can reach three hundred thousand. Whether obtaining a human body is difficult or not, think about it and it will be clear. These are not just rumors and bad opinions. They come from the words of both Shakyamuni Buddha and Padmasambhava. Look at the number of sentient beings to see if it is difficult or not. This is the meaning of what was said. (2) The profound secret instruction of Great Compassion. A method for quickly accomplishing the Dharma. Meditating on impermanence of death: The Bhagavan said: O monks, all conditioned things are impermanent. Thus it is said. From the Collection of Special Topics: The end of accumulation is exhaustion, the end of rising is falling, the end of meeting is separation, the end of living is death. Thus it is said. From the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: 'Today I will not die,' it is unreasonable to live happily thinking so. When I become non-existent, that will be when the demons devour me. Who will give me fearlessness? How can I be sure to be liberated from this? When the demons devour me and I no longer exist, how can my mind be at ease? Thus it is said. Look at this impermanence of death that can be seen with your eyes. When your own neighbors, fellow villagers, acquaintances, and relatives die in the midst of farming and hard work, you yourself will realize that even if you want to do many things, there is no time. When you see people of your own age or younger dying, understand that even if you are young, there is no guarantee that you will not die. The Bhagavan said: Among all the concepts meditated upon by Buddhists, the concept of meditating on impermanence is the best. Thus it is said. (3) The profound secret instruction of Great Compassion. A method for abandoning suffering and attaining happiness. One should understand the law of cause and effect. From the Karmashataka: Deeds are various, and thus they create various beings. Thus it is said. From the Vajra Verses of Avalokiteśvara: The result of non-virtue is suffering, the result of virtue is happiness, from mixture arises a mixture of happiness and suffering, therefore one should adopt virtue and abandon evil from a young age. Thus it is said. From the Ratnavali: Desire, hatred, and ignorance,

The karma created by non-virtue is non-virtuous. From non-virtue comes suffering, and so it is with all the lower realms. Without attachment, hatred, and ignorance, the karma created is virtuous. From virtue comes all the happy realms, and happiness in all lifetimes. Thus it is said. To explain it simply: The ripening result of taking life is to be born in hell. The result corresponding to the cause, even if born as a human, is to have a short life and many illnesses. The dominating result is to be born in an inauspicious place. The ripening result of taking what is not given is to be born as a hungry ghost. The result corresponding to the cause, even if born as a human, is to become poor. The dominating result is to be born in a place with much hail. The ripening result of engaging in sexual misconduct is to be born as a hungry ghost. The result corresponding to the cause is to be born as a wife hated by enemies. The dominating result is to be born in a hot valley, as a hairless animal. The ripening result of lying is to be born as an animal. The result corresponding to the cause, even if born as a human, is to be disliked. The dominating result is to be born in a place with a bad smell. The ripening result of slander is to be born in hell. The result corresponding to the cause is to be separated from friends. The dominating result is to be born in a place with great differences in elevation. The ripening result of harsh speech is to be born in hell. The result corresponding to the cause is to be disliked. The dominating result is to be born in a place with little water, salty soil, and much sin. The ripening result of idle talk is to be born as an animal. The result corresponding to the cause is to become disrespectful. The dominating result is to be born in a place where summer and winter are reversed. The ripening result of covetousness is to be born as a hungry ghost. The result corresponding to the cause is to become very attached. The dominating result is to be born in a place with bad grain. The ripening result of harmful intent is to be born in hell. The result corresponding to the cause is to become very hateful. The dominating result is to be born in a place with coarse food. The ripening result of wrong view is to be born as an animal. The result corresponding to the cause, even if born as a human, is to become very ignorant. The dominating result is to be born in a place with no possessions. These non-virtuous actions, if done with hatred, lead to hell. If done with desire, they lead to the realm of hungry ghosts. If done with ignorance, they lead to the animal realm. If done in a great way, they lead to hell. If done in a medium way, they lead to the realm of hungry ghosts. If done in a small way, they lead to the animal realm. If done in a high place, they lead to hell.
