It is said. Zhang Rinpoche said, "Then, like the depths of the ocean, consciousness remains unmoving and stable." It is said. Both the Definitive Meaning Ocean and the Oral Instructions of the Accomplished Masters say, "If you maintain it as before, subtle and coarse thoughts will cease, and you will remain in a state of non-conceptuality. You will not feel whether the body is comfortable or not. You will not feel the movement of the breath, or its cessation. The mind will be comfortable, clear, and effortlessly flow into non-conceptuality. Even in the post-meditation period, if you do not examine it carefully, you will not be able to grasp the details of objects. The mind will not engage in distractions, and it will seem as if you have forgotten a great deal. Even if you do not meditate, you will naturally and effortlessly enter into meditation. If a clear, cloudless sky-like clarity arises, a bottomless, clear light, then the ultimate state of abiding is like an unmoving ocean. However, if it is like an ocean in the dark, it is not right. If it is like an ocean in the daytime, it is right. These are the actual bases of meditation, and if you continue them, clairvoyance and other things will arise, and they will become the basis for seeing the truth." It is said. The venerable Tsuglag Trengwa said, "If you maintain that single-pointedly, without distraction, the body will be comfortable, the mind will be clear, and there will be no thoughts. You will not feel any harm from external conditions, and you will not feel the passing of days and nights. You will feel that the afflictions that have manifested have been suppressed and cannot arise, and subtle clairvoyance of clear appearances will arise. Many phenomena that seem like qualities will arise. This is the ultimate state of abiding, like an unmoving ocean, and it is the final stage of calm abiding. After that, everything that arises is calm abiding, and it is a path common to both internal and external, common to both Bon and Buddhist, and common to both the Great and Small Vehicles. That meditation is not Mahamudra. The Great Being Rangjung Dorje said, "If you do not grasp it with skillful means, then with virtue, you will accomplish the virtue of the gods of the desire realm. Even meditation endowed with bliss and clarity has no place to go other than the gods of the form realm. By blocking perception, you become non-conceptual, and you mistake it for a long-lived god. Although you realize all phenomena as like space, it is the sphere of infinite space. Although you view the nature of mind as like space, you mistake it for the realm of infinite consciousness. There is no self, there is nothing, neither existent nor non-existent, the peak of existence. Alas! In the waves of the three realms, wise ones, do not hope for truth." It is said. The venerable Phagmo Drupa said, "At the feet of the holy lama,

After that, if you practice any key points, your body and mind will be filled with bliss. If you protect it with attachment and clinging, you will fall into the realm of desire. Like the clear and bright sky, like the moon rising inside and outside, there is no difference between opening and closing. If the practitioner protects it with attachment and clinging, he will fall into the realm of form. Even if you look outward and inward, there is not the slightest subtle concept. If you contemplate the stainless Dharmakaya, for the thoughts of liking and disliking, if you protect that experience well, you will fall into the realm of formlessness. The three of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, even if practiced without attachment, may become Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. So it is said. Jigten Sumgon said: The three of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, these three are the wrong paths of practice. So it is said. Gyalwa Chödingpa said: Unless one's own mind is unborn, even if you relax your mind and practice, it is still calm abiding; even if you strive and practice, it is still calm abiding; leaving it uncorrected will become artificial. Even if you practice with the idea that the mind exists, it is still eternalism; even if you practice with the idea that the mind does not exist, it is still nihilism. If you practice as mind, then it is only mind; if you practice as Madhyamaka, then it is the grasped and the grasper. Practicing bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality is also a wrong path obscured by concepts. The experience of the profound path of skillful means is also a worldly samadhi. Various afflictions and concepts are also the cause of birth in the three realms of samsara. So it is said. So how should it be done? Jowo Rinpoche Gampopa said: Of the two, abiding and realization, do not place too much importance on abiding, because abiding is also present in fainting, drunkenness, and deep sleep, because that is not realization. So it is said. So is calm abiding something bad that cannot arise? It is not, it is the basis and support for the arising of Mahamudra. The Delightful Womb Sutra says: If there is no samadhi without mind, then the outflows will not be abandoned. So it is said. The Bodhisattva Pitaka says: Shariputra, what precedes the perfection of meditation? It is like this, it precedes the certain realization of mind. So it is said. The oral instructions of the lineage of accomplished ones say: Whichever of the three abidings arises, at that time, give the introduction.
