It is said in Lashi that one should contemplate that all dharmas are without inherent existence in ultimate truth. Whatever thought arises that there is no inherent existence whatsoever, should be abandoned by correct knowledge. In such a state that transcends existence and non-existence, one should meditate without any object of focus, where knowing also transcends existence and non-existence. Furthermore, Norbu Lingpa Dewe Dorje said: "If one knows the clear light, there is no need for arguments separating one and many. In the direct perception of the great bliss that appears there, there is no need to seek scriptures and inferences. Since experience is the nature of things, there is no doubt of falling into nihilism. Since one does not think about it in any way, there is no doubt because conceptual elaborations are cut off." Furthermore, Namkhai Dorje said: "When meditating on the two selflessnesses, if one knows the clear light, there is no doubt. Just as one has directly found an elephant, why search for the elephant's tracks?" Furthermore, in the commentary on the Dohas translated by Vairotsana, it is said: "Turning away from the correct view, they consider the view of memory and conceptual thought to be the intention of the Buddha, thinking that both appearance and emptiness are temporary and therefore artificial." Thus it is said. Tilopa said: "Do not think, do not contemplate, do not meditate, do not examine; the mind naturally abides." Furthermore, Orgyen Rinpoche said: "It is not enough to merely recognize and know one's own nature. For example, if a wild horse is left untamed for many years, it is not enough for the owner to not recognize it and for the herdsman to merely identify it; one needs to tame the wild horse with methods and make it docile. Similarly, it is not enough for this wild mind to be merely recognized. Alas! When meditation and the bardo arise for me, having abandoned the collections of distraction and delusion, I enter a state of non-distraction, non-grasping, and non-high or low." Thus it is said. Therefore, a beginner needs to guard and meditate with non-distracted mindfulness, just as when a wild horse is not tamed, one needs to tame it with non-distracted diligence. Distraction is like a wild horse escaping and crashing, and here too, if a beginner is distracted, conceptual thoughts will escape on their own, causing one to fall into the lower realms and be destroyed. Therefore, one should sustain practice with non-distracted mindfulness. Furthermore, without any object or thing to meditate on, simply without distraction, relax, naturally, relax, rest easily. First, practice in short sessions, and once accustomed, gradually increase the length of the sessions.

When settling, do not be hasty, do not lose the experience of meditation, rise slowly, without losing awareness, walk in a state of non-distraction and non-attachment. Whatever you do, whether eating, speaking, or anything else, maintain awareness without distraction. If it works in meditative equipoise but not in post-meditation, then combine the practice with activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, so that whatever you do becomes meditation. As it says in the Great Compassion Secret Assembly Tantra: "Tighten, loosen, leave as is, equally, Meditate in the state of emptiness, free from elaboration." Like initially putting a rope in water, tighten the posture and awareness. Relax in that state. Then, like an aftertaste, loosen, relax, and release, so that the tightened state shows clarity. The loosened state shows relaxation and comfort. Remaining in that emptiness shows the ungrounded nature. Placing all of these in the same state and view is called meditation that does not deviate from the Buddha's intention. Meditate on that for a long time. If discursive thoughts arise, tighten. If clarity is lacking, loosen. If there is no problem, mainly maintain as is. At that time, in awareness, the essence is empty and clear, the nature is clear and vivid, and the function is ungrounded. If clarity, awareness, and emptiness are one, then abiding in that is the stainless Great Seal, therefore the tantra says, "Meditate in the state of emptiness, free from elaboration." Songtsen Gampo said: Combine the Dharma of Great Compassion with the Great Seal, and meditation is also determined by two examples and meanings. The first example is clear light, non-thought, like a lamp not moved by the wind. For example, a lamp not moved by the wind, the root burns, the middle is clear, and the tip is sharp, similarly, when the mind is not manipulated, it naturally remains clear and transparent. The second example is knowing that thoughts are empty, like recognizing a thief. For example, just as a thief cannot steal when recognized, no matter what experiences of dullness or agitation arise, just knowing that their essence is empty, mere mindfulness abides in the Great Seal. Conduct is also determined by two examples and meanings. Non-duality meeting is like a mother and child recognizing each other. For example, just as a mother and child recognize each other and have no doubt of whether or not it is them, whatever arises in appearance.
