If it is necessary to accomplish with completely pure discipline and infinite faith, diligence, etc., then think about how rare each of these factors is. From the perspective of numbers, what is difficult to obtain is that all sentient beings who have obtained the body of the six realms, in the empty space the size of a chariot wheel hub, it is said that there are many wandering consciousnesses. The Sutra says: Like a sesame seed on the tip of a needle, it is difficult to obtain a human body, but people do not understand this principle without observing the number of sentient beings. The scriptures say: Animals are like the lees of wine in the outer sea, hungry ghosts are like blizzards, and hells are as numerous as the dust of this great earth. Again, the Sutra says: World Honored One, Shariputra asked, World Honored One, how many are there in hell? How many are there of hungry ghosts, animals, and asuras? How many are there of gods and humans? The World Honored One replied: Shariputra, hells are as numerous as the dust of the earth, hungry ghosts are as numerous as the grains of sand, animals are as numerous as the lees of wine, asuras are as numerous as blizzards, and gods and humans are as numerous as the dust on fingernails. So it is said. Being born in the three lower realms is as numerous as the dust of the great earth, and being born in the good realms of gods and humans is as numerous as the dust on fingernails. For example, the root of a large pile of barley is the number of those born in the three lower realms, the middle is the number of those born in the heavens and asuras, and the top is the number of those born as humans. Therefore, a human body with leisure and endowment is even more difficult to obtain. From the perspective of analogy, what is difficult to obtain is also said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: Therefore, the World Honored One said: Like a blind turtle's neck entering a yoke hole, a human body is extremely difficult to obtain. Like this. From where is it said? From the correct scriptures, such as when the great earth becomes a single expanse of water, someone loses a single-holed wooden yoke, and the wind blows it in all directions. In that, there is a blind turtle that has lived for thousands of years. And so on. In the Letter to a Friend, it says: In the ocean, the yoke hole, the blind turtle meeting is even more difficult, among animals obtaining a human body, King, you should practice the sacred Dharma.

May your actions bring fruitful results. The Nirvana Sutra says: It is extremely difficult to obtain a human body, and it is difficult to encounter the appearance of a Buddha. Just as in the middle of a great ocean, a blind turtle happens to encounter a piece of driftwood, and its neck fits into the hole in the wood, it is even more difficult for a Buddha to appear. So it is said. The Lamp of Faith says: It is extremely difficult to obtain this human body. If you scatter peas on the surface of a cymbal, it is difficult for even one to stick. All the others fall to the ground. Considering the number of sentient beings, it is difficult to obtain a human body. So it is said. In another sutra, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Chungawa: If you hold the eye of a needle towards the sky and scatter a handful of mustard seeds, it is only possible that a mustard seed will fall into the eye of the needle. If you scatter a handful of peas against a wall, it is only possible that a pea will stick to the wall. Similarly, it is only possible to obtain a human body. So it is said. Therefore, this precious human body, which is so difficult to obtain, should not be wasted, but its essence should be realized. The sutra says: At this time when you have obtained a precious human body, you have the power to speak and think. Wherever others are born, they are distracted by being without leisure. At this time when you have the power to speak and think, either cut off samsara at its root or increase samsara. It is up to you to do as you please, and that is now. So it is said. The Ratnakuta Sutra says: The appearance of a Buddha in the world is rare, and it is also very difficult to be born as a human being. Among friends, those who have faith and listen to the Dharma are difficult to find even in hundreds of kalpas. It is very difficult to find even in hundreds of kalpas. Make this appearance of the Victorious One meaningful. Generate faith in the Buddha's teachings, and do not go to the terrifying lower realms. So it is said. The sutra says: It is rare to be born as a human being. It is rare to have leisure and endowments. It is rare to be liberated from samsara. Therefore, do not let this leisure be meaningless. If you become without leisure, it will be impossible to remedy it later. So it is said. To commit sins after obtaining leisure and endowments is like using a golden vessel adorned with jewels as a broom to sweep up dog feces. The Letter to a Friend says: Whoever uses a golden vessel adorned with jewels to sweep up impure things, compared to that, whoever is born as a human being and then commits sins is the most foolish.
