The old master, Golden Light Million. Outwardly, it is eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma, Inwardly condensed, it is three sentences of introduction. That is the extensive and concise, son of lineage! Just looking at the mind of one's own mind, If you do not see form, color, or objects, That is emptiness, son of lineage! Sometimes the mind is like a spark flickering, It is neither this nor that, not even one exists, That is abiding, son of lineage! Sometimes the mind does not stay, it runs in ten directions, That is moving, son of lineage! What does the mind do when it abides and moves? Looking at its essence, one knows what it does. That is awareness, Son of lineage! The three of mind abiding, moving, and awareness, Although seen separately, their essence is one. Like water, waves, and water droplets, The meaning is one's own mind, son of lineage!

It is like this. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce abiding and moving. Because the mind has no substance, it is named emptiness. When abiding without distraction, it is named abiding. When thoughts subside and one abides serenely, it is named quiescence. When scattering in all ten directions, it is named moving. Confused and turbulent, with myriad thoughts, like a stream flowing down a steep cliff. This is the initial manifestation of experience. When abiding, recognize the nature of abiding. When moving, recognize the nature of moving. This is named awareness. Whether abiding or moving, clearly observe the nature of whatever arises. There is no form, color, or substance; clearly see in emptiness. This is named insight. Abiding without distraction is quiescence, seeing in emptiness is insight. Combining the two without separation is named the union of quiescence and insight. Whatever movement arises in the mind, by observing its nature, it will vanish into emptiness. This is named self-pacification and self-liberation. Do not follow the thoughts of movement, but observe the nature of the mover. Do not be jealous or suppress it; let it go and remain vigilant. Like a mare tethered to a foal, even if released, it will not go far but will return. When turbulent, relax the body and mind. This is the profound key instruction for practice. If it is not clear after observing for a long time, stop. Even observing many times for a short period is the secret nectar of great practitioners. Practicing like this for a long time, sometimes one will abide peacefully, and a little joy will arise in the mind. Sometimes one will run like a wild horse, and even if it moves, there will be no displeasure in the mind. Like a stream in a valley, sometimes slow, sometimes rapid. This is the manifestation of the second experience. If one can practice it without abandoning it, many states will manifest due to the influence of the elements. For those with a strong earth element, the experience of abiding is stronger. For those with a strong fire element, the experience of clarity is stronger. For those with a strong wind element, the experience of scattering is stronger. For those with a strong water element, the experience of bliss is stronger. Most of the time, one will abide peacefully, like the waves of a calm ocean. Sometimes individual thoughts will arise, and even if they arise, one will clearly see their nature. Now it is like a meditative experience arising, and the mind will feel warm. This is the manifestation of the third experience. Relax the body and mind, do not be distracted, and observe clearly and attentively. If one can practice it for a long time, one will experience bliss, clarity, and non-thought.

Sometimes good experiences and rough experiences come mixed together. Sometimes the body is happy and the mind is also happy, thinking that there is no one happier than me. Practice is easy, whatever I do is happy. If I become attached to this, I will be reborn in the realm of desire gods. Look clearly at the essence of happiness, see the essence of happiness as emptiness. Bliss and emptiness are inseparable, that is practice. Sometimes it is clear and bright, like a candle that is not moved by the wind. I think my meditation is so good, no one else has it. Great pride and arrogance arise. If I am attached and arrogant to this, I will be reborn in the realm of form gods. Do not be attached to this, look at its essence, see the essence of clarity as emptiness. Clarity and emptiness are inseparable, that is practice. Sometimes I see everything as empty. There is nothing, it is emptiness. The conviction of thinking is very strong. If I am attached to this, I will be reborn in the realm of formless gods. Sometimes all inner and outer phenomena, I am determined to see everything. Even the so-called good and evil, I think are unestablished emptiness. I do not do good deeds, I sit silently, I do not avoid evil deeds, I do whatever I want. The idiot with the view of emptiness is the work of demons. Although the essence of all phenomena is emptiness, the appearance of cause and effect is not deceiving. Shakyamuni killed the black man, and the result was that many thorns pierced his feet. Even if Changka attained the Arhat state, the result was that his head was cut off by thieves. Maudgalyayana, the greatest of miracles, was beaten by heretics as a result. Thinking about these things, I value cause and effect, and strive to do good and abandon evil as much as possible. Sometimes these distractions of thoughts, if they exist, meditation is meaningless. I think I should not think anything, I only need to abide. Stop the thoughts and look for abiding. This is the view of the Chinese monk. At that time, do not stop the thoughts, just look at whatever arises without distraction. Do not see the water waves as different from the water. Abiding and moving are both mind, so abandon the choice of good and bad. When abiding, look at the essence of abiding, see the essence of abiding as emptiness. This is vipassanā on top of abiding. When moving, look at the essence of the mover, see the essence of moving as emptiness. This is vipassanā on top of moving. Sometimes rough experiences appear. Happy, clear, non-conceptual good experiences, all disappear like rainbows. Even if I look at my mind, it does not become clear, and my mind and consciousness are uncomfortable.
