If that is not attained, then even the two form bodies will not appear to those to be tamed. It is said. In the Praise to the Vajra of Mind by Nagarjuna, it says: Precious mind is from liberation, The gods cannot be accomplished, Seeing the mind is enlightenment. It is said. In short, if this meaning of the emptiness of mind, the great seal, is not realized, even if one accumulates merit and purifies obscurations for countless millions of eons, it is impossible to be liberated from samsara, as is said in all the sutras, tantras, and instructions. Therefore, one should know that it is the lifeblood of all the sacred Dharma. The way to experience that decisive view through meditation is: As it says in the texts, by looking at the essence of the mind itself, it vanishes effortlessly without a basis, and continuing to cultivate that is called looking at the essence, and it is known as cultivating whatever arises. It is said. Therefore, one should always let the mind relax naturally without artificiality, and look at its essence without distraction. At that time, the state where the mind does not wander anywhere and remains is calm abiding. By looking at its essence, in a state where nothing is established, there is a feeling of emptiness, which cannot be expressed in words, but seems to be experienced in the mind, that is insight. These two are inseparable and of one taste, that is the union of calm abiding and insight. Among the three ways of cultivating it, superior, middling, and inferior, the superior is to cultivate whatever arises without acceptance or rejection, without distraction, so that it is naturally liberated like water and waves. The middling is to look directly at the essence of whatever thoughts and concepts arise, so that they naturally subside. The inferior is that as soon as a thought or concept arises, one investigates its source, etc., and as soon as one realizes that it is without basis or root, it is like cutting a bamboo from a bamboo forest and seeing that it is empty without essence, and understanding that all the bamboo forests are the same. Similarly, when one realizes that one thought has no self-nature, one knows that all thoughts are the same, and then one cultivates without distraction. Dagpo Rinpoche said: Looking directly at thoughts is the key to the meeting of the mother and child of one's own mind. Relaxing the mind and letting awareness rest openly without support is the key to the method of resting. Not allowing distraction and repeatedly looking at the mind is the key to clarifying awareness. It is said. Panchen Shakya Shri said: The superior is to leave whatever appears in its own place, the middling is to grasp the essence of whatever arises, the inferior is to

of its root and let memories and thoughts dissolve on their own.” So it was said. Jowo Serlingpa said, “Throw it far away, relax and loosen it. Strike it sharply, rest it gently.” So it was said. Jowo Atisha said, “Recognize all dharmas as your own mind and rest in the state of mind. Rest the mind in its own place. Rest the mind loosely. Rest the mind naturally. Rest the mind comfortably.” So it was said. Sachen Kunga Nyingpo said, “In the non-dual Mahamudra, there is not even a moment of thought. Like meeting a wild camel calf, recognizing the nature of mind is thought.” So it was said. Sakya Drakpa Gyaltsen said, “Rest naturally and loosely, without artificiality.” So it was said. Pandit Shakya Shri said, “If whatever appears is left in its own place, it is effortless spontaneous accomplishment. If whatever arises is held by awareness, awareness is liberated in its own place. If the root of movement is cut, memories and thoughts dissolve into space. These three are the nature of one's own mind, so meditate on them as the main practice.” Meditate in this way. Furthermore, the incomparable Dagpo Rinpoche said that for this method of resting, the glorious Drukpa spoke of nine aspects: Rest naturally. Rest loosely. Rest spontaneously. How to rest. Rest without artificiality. Rest without grasping. Rest like that. Rest in its own state. Rest without effort. Thus, he spoke of nine aspects. The meaning of this was explained by Gyalwa Orgyenpa: That is, resting naturally means that, like this, for all that appears, be certain that it is your own mind, without needing any adjustment or modification, because the nature of mind itself is the Dharmakaya, so whatever appears, rest naturally. Moreover, this is not resting through the mind, but resting naturally without modification. Any modification is modification, whether it is expanding or contracting to practice, it is modification, whether it is watching or not watching, it is modification, be certain that non-action is your own mind, so that the thought of dualistic grasping will not arise. Resting loosely means that for whatever arises, there is no rejection or acceptance, like cutting a grass rope, rest loosely. Resting spontaneously means that, from that state, if a thought suddenly arises, then any thought that arises has no basis, so let that thought arise, neither blocking nor abandoning it, neither clinging nor disliking it, without making any mental fabrication, but resting naturally. How to rest means that, like preventing from within, like protecting from within, like applying an antidote from within, whatever is done is
