Homage to the guru! If one can pray with a sincere heart, Isn't it the one who truly removes obstacles, The Lord of Dharma of the Jonangpa? Now, if one can pray with one mind, how wonderful! If one possesses wisdom and diligence, Isn't it the monastic community of Glorious Nyenling, Where there are images of wise and accomplished beings? If there is a son like a clear mind, how wonderful! If one's offerings are not lacking, Isn't it the Glorious Shakyamuni, The support for offerings to gods and beings? If there is a son with faith, how wonderful! If one's prayers are not weak like the sound of thunder, Isn't it the lineage of the meaning of Glorious Naropa, From which the rain of blessings flows? If there is a son with reverence, how wonderful! In general, although there are many wondrous lineages, Isn't it the Glorious Dagpo Kagyu, Where the constellations of accomplished ones are abundant? If there is a son with diligence, how wonderful! In general, although there are countless profound instructions, Isn't it the Great Seal, Knowing one thing, one is skilled in all? If there is a son who can endure meditation, how wonderful! This small tune of "Yö" and the Six Gates, On the summit of the Glorious Holy Place, During a strict solitary retreat, Arose from experience and was sung. This was when I went to Ü-Tsang (Central Tibet) at the age of nineteen, A severe fever, like fire, arose from the back of the blacksmith Aga, causing pain, heat, and numbness in the head and limbs, but I concealed the illness and continued on. When crossing Laz, someone gave me a piece of rotten mutton that day, and after eating it, the illness worsened, my body swayed, and I walked as if drunk. Nevertheless, thinking that these horses and mules were to be offered to the father and son, it would be better to die for the sake of feeding them. Without hiding anything, I concealed the illness and continued to herd the horses and mules, and that night the illness became severe, and I thought I would die that night, so I turned my head towards the father and son and the Jowo (Jokhang statue of Buddha). Thinking, "I will die once, and it is better to die for the Dharma this time," I thought this from the bottom of my heart. I lay down with my head facing west, and because I slept with my head down like a nomad, the offering official said, "Raise your head, how can there be someone who doesn't know how to sleep like this?" Although urged, I slept like a head. The next morning, I felt much better and quickly recovered. This year, all my monks have contracted the plague, so I have taken various precautions and medicines.

Despite using various medicines, guarding sleep, and being careful with food and drink, I was on the verge of death. At that time, I didn't even have a single packet of medicine, no moment of rest, not even a bowl of porridge to relieve the pain. Although I ate unclean food, I was unharmed, which seemed to be because I harbored resentment towards the Guru and the Three Jewels. When praying with such resentment, there seems to be no doubt that obstacles will be removed and accomplishments will be granted. Thinking this, I became slightly happy, and in that year, when I was thirty-four years old. Homage to the 7th Karmapa, Karma Araaga! Homage to the feet of Lord Chokyi Wangchuk! Please bless us beggars to realize appearances! O Supreme Perfect Buddha, Vajradhara, Although residing with marks and signs of beauty, If not a Bodhisattva of the tenth Bhumi, Others cannot see. In the Tushita Dharma Palace above, Lord Mipam and his retinue reside, If not the master Asanga, Others cannot see. That glorious master Padmasambhava, Although appearing on the tenth day of the Monkey Month, If not a fortunate person, Others cannot see. That great accomplished Mitra Joki, Although coming every year, If not Shamar Narima, Others cannot see. The mind born together is the Dharmakaya, Although it has always resided within oneself, Unless one receives the essential instructions, Others cannot see. All sentient beings of the six realms, Although all are kind parents, If not a Bodhisattva who has attained realization, Others cannot see. The outer world is inherently a palace, The inner beings are all Yidams, If not a Yogic master, Others cannot see. When Lord Chokyi Wangchuk passed away, Although there were inconceivable miraculous signs, If not a faithful and virtuous disciple, Others cannot see. This little tune of "Eight Things Not Seen", Is now sung from the arising of experience. This song was composed when I was twenty-four years old, when I met a wealthy young man named Gowa in Kham, who asked me to tell the story of Padmasambhava's passing into Nirvana. I told the story in detail, especially during the twelfth month of the funeral offerings.
