is wisdom. Four hands hold four aspects of immeasurable qualities, six hands carry across the six perfections. Two feet abandon the two extremes, four feet gather the four objects of attraction. Adorned with silk and precious jewels, all qualities are complete within oneself. Possessing all the attire of a wrathful deity, it is a symbol of subduing all arrogance. One should understand the symbolic meanings of these and other such things. The details are clarified in the individual sadhanas and praises. Thus, no matter which deity's form one meditates on, its essence is emptiness, and its nature is luminosity. Meditate like a rainbow in the sky. This cuts through all wrong paths, stabilizes pride, and blessings arise. One's own body is inherently the yidam deity, as stated in all the tantras. Therefore, firmly hold the conviction and pride that you are the actual deity, remember the clear form and purity. When the clear form, pure recollection, and stable pride are combined, it becomes the supreme generation stage. In the sutra system, one needs three countless eons, without accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, hence the fault of not attaining Buddhahood. The fault of not knowing one's own body as the deity. In the unsurpassed (tantra), one attains enlightenment in one lifetime, because one meditates on one's own body as the deity, hence it is profound. Therefore, whether the sutra or tantra is profound or not, depends on the key point of the generation stage. This key point of the generation stage, this small tune, was immediately spoken by Ra Ga A Sya. Auspicious! Mo Ma Ha Mutraye! Nowadays, there are many disciples who seek guidance, and many who claim to be great meditators, but few possess flawless shamatha and vipassana. After properly adjusting the posture and other key points of the body, that great ignorance of conceptual thought is the cause of falling into the ocean of samsara. If one abides in non-conceptual wisdom, then one abides in non-conceptuality like the sky. As explained in the Ornament of Clear Realization, if one misunderstands it, and stops movement without moving, many people will cling to this as meditation. The eyes do not see forms, and the ears do not hear sounds, there is no memory, and all conceptual thoughts cease. The mind does not remember anything, and one remains in a daze for a long time, this meditation is merely a precursor to rebirth. Know that this is not meditation, and if one thinks it is meditation and practices it, it is the cause of being reborn as an animal. There are many who are born like that. Bears and marmots practice this, and the blessings last for three months in that body, without hunger or cold, they exist healthily. Even they have such wonderful qualities. After adjusting the posture, in the mind,

Without engaging in meditation, But rather settling awareness in the heart center. Pull back the scattering thoughts, Do not allow them to wander freely. Without letting the mind recall anything, Consider it best to abide in this state. Do not let the mind recall virtuous deeds, For recalling them leads to rebirth in the heavens. Even there, there is the suffering of birth and death. Do not let the mind recall evil deeds, For recalling them leads to rebirth in the lower realms. There, the suffering is immeasurable. Neither accumulating merit nor abandoning sin, If no thoughts arise in the mind, That is the attainment of liberation. This is the view of the Chinese Heshang, Said to be a false view. Both of these are dull śamatha, They are śamatha with faults. In the space in front, visualize the Sage (Shakyamuni Buddha) or, Visualize Amitabha Buddha, etc. Focus awareness on that single-pointedly. If awareness is too scattered, Focus awareness on the lotus moon cushion in the lotus posture. If awareness is dull and unclear, Focus awareness on the white hair between the eyebrows or The crown of the head. Pull back the scattering thoughts and place them on that. By meditating in this way for a long time, Wherever awareness is focused, Without scattering, abiding there for a long time, This is called śamatha with characteristics. This is śamatha that arises according to the Sutra system. Similarly, on the life-essence syllable Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: 吽) or Hrīḥ (Tibetan: ཧཱི༔, Sanskrit Devanagari: ह्रीः, Sanskrit Romanization: hrīḥ, Chinese literal meaning: 赫利) of the heart of one's own yidam deity, Focus awareness, for a long time, Without scattering, abiding is śamatha. Without recalling anything in the mind, Relaxing and abiding, one's own mind, Does not scatter anywhere, but remains still. Remaining still is also the awareness of the mind, This is the supreme śamatha without characteristics. By meditating on śamatha in this way, There are immeasurable benefits, And the eight common great siddhis are attained, Being able to fly in the sky and not sink in water, It is said that one obtains contaminated clairvoyance. Therefore, for the non-Buddhists, Those with siddhis, miraculous powers, and clairvoyance, Arising from peaceful abiding is the benefit of śamatha. Peace is the pacification of thoughts, Abiding is focusing awareness on, Abiding for a long time is śamatha. As powerful as śamatha is, The qualities and abilities of vipaśyanā are said to be greater. If thick śamatha is not established, Like the sky after the clouds have broken, Even if vipaśyanā arises, it is ineffective. Therefore, my supreme guide, Jetsun Kunga Namgyal (Kunga Namgyal, c. 1464-1542), When giving instructions, emphasized śamatha. The secretary of the great siddha also, First practiced the arising of śamatha. First, without rushing, It is very important for the signs of śamatha to appear. This is Star Rāhu Asyasyas.
