disappeared. Before that, sometimes the experience was good, but most of the time, the mind was in an unstable and scattered state, and it was uncomfortable to guard, and I felt tired of it. When I myself was in retreat at the age of thirty-one, I performed guru yoga on the reincarnation of the supreme one, reciting prayers and calling out from afar in four sessions, and my body was in retreat and I practiced the recitation of Tara. From then on, a sign of realization arose in my mind. No matter what thoughts and delusions arose in my mind, they were like snowflakes falling on a lake, and from then on, the delusions in my mind became the object of meditation. No matter what I meditated on, it was not difficult, and there was no fear or anxiety. Such an experience lasted for about four or five months. I now think that no matter how scattered I am, it will not cause harm. Because the body was too scattered, the experience gradually weakened. Even if the mind can always maintain mindfulness, it makes no difference, but most of the time, I cannot maintain mindfulness and am in a state of confusion. When I myself was thirty-six years old, I met the reincarnation of Jetrung Kyid, and immeasurable pure appearances and joy arose in my mind. The body felt comfortable, and the body and mind were filled with joy. The mind was as calm as a clear ocean. Whether the thoughts and delusions in the mind were many or few, they naturally subsided like the ocean and waves. Most of the time during the day, I had no separation. No matter how scattered the outside was, it could not cause harm. The body was not tired, and the mind stream was subdued. This state lasted for eight or nine months without diminishing. When I myself was at the end of thirty-seven years old, I vowed to abandon villages and worldly affairs, and vowed to practice a thirteen-year retreat. I did not let the rain wet my retreat. I took a vow of silence and did not speak during meditation. I diligently practiced the recitation and practice of the generation stage and completion stage. In the dreams at night, the clear light of clarity manifested wonderful experiences many times. About two years later, I felt that the external space, whether it was samsara or nirvana, was pervaded by my mind. I wondered if this was also a realm of infinite space. Sometimes, all phenomena and existence, whether samsara or nirvana, are not composed of things other than the mind, and I arose an experience of directly realizing this. I also wondered if this was just an outline of understanding. Upwards, the mind of the Buddhas and my own mind, downwards, the mind streams of the six realms of sentient beings, I felt that they were not different in meaning and were integrated into one. I developed a certainty about this view that there is no difference between samsara and nirvana, and I thought that this was the truth. I also wondered if this was just the scope of understanding. About three years after that, the supreme dakini

Namkhai Gyaltsen dreamed of receiving the introduction to the Mahamudra Dharma. From that time on, he experienced a unique and wonderful realization. The experiences and realizations from previous meditations, although a good collection, were deceived by the clinging of meditation and thought. Now, this has no basis for meditation, the meaning is without elaboration, ordinary and naked, without any touch of mental clinging. When such a realization arises, doubts and thoughts occasionally arise. The previous meditation is completely different from the present. Previously, there was certainty, naked and clear, but now the clinging to certainty has disappeared from within. Previously, there were two, the seer and the seen, but now the seer and the seen are merged into one. In the birthplace of no self, I am uneasy, fearing self-liberation. I looked at the songs of the Kagyu lamas and now I realize the nature of meditation. Although the nature of meaning is unchanging, the ups and downs of experience still abound. At the junction of the Water Snake and Wood Horse years (1953-1954), the experiences in dreams were rough, chaotic, and miraculous. The body was unwell and severe illnesses arose. When the miracles subsided slightly, I met Father Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, Je Phagmo Drupa, and Kyobpa Jigten Sumgön in a dream and received light. When I woke up, I greeted the end of sleep with meditation, and the experiences and realizations that arose were different from before. At this time, the ordinary mind is naked, and I realize that it is the Mahamudra of meditation. The mind is neither stained nor unstained by thoughts, and there is no difference between distraction and non-distraction. In terms of meaning, I realize it as Mahamudra. Wonderful, this ordinary thought, without the need for fabrication or negation, has been dwelling as the Dharmakaya from the beginning, but until now it has been in vain. Until now, I have not realized it, how can I take it? Thinking like this, I burst into laughter of shame. Such experiences occurred over a few days. Although there was no change in its nature, the ups and downs of experience still existed. The base is like the unchanging sky, but like the clarity and obscurity of the sun, moon, and clouds of conditions. Sometimes I realize that all phenomena are empty. All external lands, stones, mountains, cliffs, and appearances are like the reflection of the moon in the sea, with bright shapes and colors, but empty in nature. Although I thought this was a genuine realization without fabrication, I could not break through the delusion of clinging to reality. If I touch it with my hand
