以绳索显现，以贪欲之味饮用。愚痴的绳索就是酒，饮用则会催促阎罗。从天界堕入地狱，因此不要触碰酒。从见、触、嗅中，酒使人愚昧。因此，一切都是绳索。那是要完全舍弃的种姓。从见而生贪，从触而生味，从味而生对味道的贪执，以诸味而趋于平凡。如果一定要依赖酒，那么名和色就会毁灭，是从绳索中产生的下场。贤者们称之为酒。 如是说。大般涅槃经中说：不饮用疯狂的精液——酒，甚至连闻其香味也要完全舍弃，这被称为沙门的法。如是说。同样，即使发起了大乘菩提心，如果饮酒，罪过比以前更大。圣者指鬘请问经中说：那些变成阴茎和非男非女的人，那些从如来藏中退转的众生，他们仍然饮酒，变成阴茎和非男非女，饮用极不洁净之物。菩萨的所求是圆满的佛陀，为了获得它，必须戒酒。律藏中说：何时于胜者顶，具有顶髻，舌亦长广，如何能调伏？不杀生，不予不取，不邪淫，不妄语，亦恒常舍弃饮酒，众多其他亦皆纳于此。如是说。菩萨自己饮酒且不说，即使布施给他人，也是不清净的布施。 长者请问经中说：布施酒、毒药、武器和屠宰的肉，被称为不清净的布施。狮子请问经中也说，如果布施酒，将有五百世转生为断手之人。如是说。因此，无论进入大乘还是小乘，都说戒酒才能获得果实。正念经中说：何人戒酒，安住于法与自性平等，彼将前往无死亡之处，殊胜之地。如是说。如同印度金刚座和那烂陀寺等大小乘的僧众

Manifesting with a rope, one drinks with the taste of craving. The rope of ignorance is alcohol; drinking it urges Yama. From the heavens, one goes to hell; therefore, do not touch alcohol. From seeing, touching, and smelling, alcohol makes people foolish. Therefore, everything is a rope. That is a lineage to be completely abandoned. From seeing, attachment arises; from touching, smell arises; from smell, attachment to taste arises; with all tastes, one goes to ordinariness. If one must rely on alcohol, then name and form will be destroyed; it is the end from within the rope. The wise call it alcohol. Thus it is said. In the Great Nirvana Sutra, it is said: Not drinking the semen of madness—alcohol, and completely abandoning even smelling its fragrance, is called the Dharma of a Shramana. Thus it is said. Similarly, even after generating the Bodhicitta of the Mahayana, if one drinks alcohol, the fault is greater than before. In the Sutra Requested by Arya Angulimala, it is said: Those who have become penises and hermaphrodites, those beings who have turned away from the Tathagatagarbha, they still drink alcohol, becoming penises and hermaphrodites, drinking extremely impure things. The object of a Bodhisattva's practice is the complete Buddha, and to attain it, one must abandon alcohol. In the Vinaya, it is said: When on the head of the Victorious One, there is a crown, and the tongue is long and broad, how can one be tamed? Not killing living beings, not taking what is not given, not engaging in sexual misconduct, not lying, and always abandoning drinking alcohol, many others are also included in this. Thus it is said. Not to mention a Bodhisattva drinking alcohol himself, even giving it to others is an impure gift. In the Sutra Requested by the Ascetic Rgyaspa, it is said: Giving alcohol, poison, weapons, and butchered meat is called an impure gift. In the Sutra Requested by the Lion, it is also said that if one gives alcohol, one will be born as a person with a severed hand for five hundred lifetimes. Thus it is said. Therefore, whether one enters the Mahayana or the Hinayana, it is said that one can attain the fruit by abandoning alcohol. In the Mindfulness Sutra, it is said: Whoever abandons alcohol, abides in the Dharma and nature equally, that one will go to the place where there is no death, the supreme place. Thus it is said. All monastic communities have strict rules against alcohol. When the great accomplished beings Virupa and Maitripa secretly drank a little alcohol after attaining accomplishment, the Sangha did not know that they were accomplished beings, so they were punished and expelled. Later, they displayed signs of accomplishment, such as walking unhindered on water, etc. Only then did the Sangha realize that they were accomplished beings and asked for forgiveness. It is said that (the Guru) instructed that if such a thing were to happen again in the Sangha, they should still be punished and expelled. Secret Mantra practice in the Action Tantra requires abstaining from alcohol. As it says in the Tantra of the Infallible Net, "Alcohol, meat, theft, mixed food, and leftovers should all be abandoned." Likewise, all Action Tantras forbid (drinking alcohol). It is not permissible to drink alcohol when practicing the Yoga Tantra. As it says in the Purifying Tantra, "Alcohol should not be drunk." and so on. It is also not permissible to drink alcohol in the Anuttara Tantra. In the Fifty Verses on the Guru, (drinking alcohol) is said to be a characteristic of a bad guru who has not taken vows. (The Summary of Views) says, "One who has not taken vows and drinks alcohol excessively." Therefore, even if someone who likes alcohol is not a Vajra Master, it is not permissible to drink alcohol if they are practicing the Anuttara Yoga Tantra. As it says in the Root Tantra of the Source of Samvara Vows, "All mantra practitioners change their behavior, are greedy for desires and engage in sexual intercourse, dance, and are arrogant and quarrelsome, act in a disturbing and perverse manner, slander and degenerate, and cry out in hell and suffer torment. All the yoginis are angered, and they go to hell because of their sins and suffer hardship. They suffer from disease, sorrow, and fear, and all kinds of terrifying harm will occur. They harm the guru and slander the guru, they harm sentient beings and do not give charity. Nectar is the same as poison, and the accomplishment of practice is without result. This is what the Buddhas of the past have said, that mantra practitioners should abandon these things and strive to do so." and so on. As it says in the Exposition of Intent, "Fish, meat, and likewise alcohol, excrement, urine, semen, and blood, are eaten by foolish people, and they proclaim as Dharma that which is non-existent." and so on. From (the text) it is known that "These are blessed by demons, and if one desires to obtain even a small accomplishment, then because of their arrogance, they will be known to be in the company of the wise." and so on. Orgyen Rinpoche also said, "Meat and alcohol that have not been blessed will lose their mantra power within three days."
