Through the shared karmic connection of the living and the deceased, may these excellent offerings and enjoyments, through the power and strength of the pure intention of the mantra practitioners, may the enjoyment of food be abundant and complete! Moggalana, due to the ripening of karma, has taken the form of a hungry ghost, tormented by hunger and thirst. Moggalana's son serves him in this way. Through the great merits of the Three Jewels, this blessed and excellent food, like enjoying the five desirable qualities, this roasted barley flour cake offered with affectionate closeness, this supreme food offering, this pure three-tiered offering, with its beautiful shape and vibrant color, resembling the majestic snow mountain. This, anointed with butter, possessing the mind of enlightenment, is like the sun rising on a mountain, shining on the snow. This offering adorned with various ornaments, like a constellation shining like the nine-sectioned diagram. Taking the shape of Mount Meru as an example, towering high into the sky with a wide opening, at the summit is a wish-fulfilling tree, at the base is a sea of nectar encircling it, on the four sides appear the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, from the four corners flow streams of nectar, from the nectar arise all desired needs and wishes, at the edges shine the sun, moon, planets, and stars. At the top of that wish-fulfilling tree, in that sky, soars the golden-eyed Garuda bird. Looking back in the morning, it protects the fortune of the living, looking forward in the afternoon, it acts as the protector of the dead. Extending its right wing, it opens the path to liberation in the higher realms, extending its left wing, it cuts off the three doors of the lower realms. Its claws and beak subdue the evil rakshasas.
