O venerable one! This is your Vajra of Vows. If you were to speak of this to someone, their head would be struck. The vow is made through the means of faults. Place the vajra in the heart, or act as if placing it. Oṃ! Today, Vajrasattva himself has truly entered your heart. If you were to speak of this manner, he would immediately depart and leave. Thus, instruct them. Sprinkle water from a conch shell and victorious water. This is your water of hell. If you break the vow, it will burn. If you keep the vow, it will grant accomplishments. Drink the water of Vajra nectar! Oṃ pañca amita udaka ṭhā. Thus, offer the water of the vow. If there is much, the offering attendant may distribute it. Place the vajra on the head, or if there are many, act as if placing it. From this day forward, you, my child, shall recite the name of the chief deity of whatever mandala it may be. I am, I shall do this. Whatever is commanded, you must do. You must not despise me. If you do, without abandoning suffering, after acting at the end of time, you will fall into hell. This is the vow to listen to the words of the lama. Now, in order to invoke the wisdom beings, offer the mandala, sprinkle scented water on the ground, etc. Recite after me. May all the Tathagatas, heroes, and yoginis bless us! Please cause the deities of the mandala to descend upon me! Three times. Now, all of us, without distraction, meditate in this way. By uttering the syllable A, you instantly become Amitabha, with a red-colored body, one face, and two arms. The right hand holds a lotus, and the left hand holds a bell with it as the handle. He has a topknot of matted hair and a garland of skulls as a crown, adorned with the six seals. He sits with both legs extended. In his heart, from the syllable LAM arises the yellow earth mandala, a square with vajras marking the four corners, and upon the sun disc is a blue HŪṂ. On his head, from the syllable VAM arises the white water mandala, a circle marked with a vase, and upon the moon disc is a white HA. At his throat, from the syllable YAM arises the blue wind mandala, shaped like a bow, marked with two fluttering banners, and upon the moon disc is a red ĀḤ. The rays of light from the seed syllable at your own heart invite the deities of body, speech, and mind vajra, and they dissolve into these syllables, becoming the nature of body, speech, and mind vajra.
