由于行持故，宣说了十一面（观音）的陀罗尼，观世音菩萨的化身，有一俱胝位仙人主，他们修持此明咒，便能亲见十方诸佛，并示现获得无生法忍之相。此后，于百千俱胝劫之前，有佛名为无量寿佛出世，他宣说了此十一面（观音）陀罗尼，圣观世音菩萨听闻后，十方诸佛皆为观世音菩萨本人灌顶，以引导众生，圣观世音菩萨，您先前已获得十一俱胝诸佛灌顶，以引导众生。由于此果报成熟，在极多的佛刹中，圣观世音菩萨您的化身屡屡出现，未来后世之时，在娑婆世界中，将有导师释迦牟尼佛出世，在人类世界中，尤其是在普拉塔的达拉克地区，北方雪山之地（拉达克地区），为了使人们对佛教的信仰和渴望增长，将预言十一面千手观音的自生像将会出现。届时，对十一面观音像产生信仰和渴望，并称念其名号，以及念诵此陀罗尼咒语的人们，在世间上，凡所欲求之事皆能成就，并且来世将获得二种智慧。这些内容在广大的《莲网经》中有所宣说。在此教法中，当薄伽梵释迦牟尼佛居住在喜马拉雅山的檀香大森林中时，圣观世音菩萨亲自以释迦牟尼佛为见证，宣说了十一面（观音）陀罗尼，以及《莲网经》等，还有千手千眼陀罗尼等。当时，释迦牟尼佛也赞叹说“善哉”，并赐予加持。这些是事行部的经典。而瑜伽部经典《莲花顶髻经》中说：当薄伽梵在天界以圆满报身成佛安住时，身光供养一切诸佛并收摄回来，薄伽梵自身显现为十一面千手之身，当时观世音菩萨也化现为菩提萨埵之身安住于彼，因此请问之后。

Due to practice, this Eleven-Faced (Avalokiteśvara) Dharani was spoken. A billion lords of hermits, emanations of Avalokiteśvara, practiced this vidyā-mantra, and thus saw the faces of the Buddhas of the ten directions, and demonstrated the manner of obtaining forbearance in unborn dharmas. Thereafter, hundreds of millions of kalpas ago, a Buddha named Amitāyus appeared, and he spoke this Eleven-Faced Dharani. When the noble Avalokiteśvara heard it, all the Buddhas of the ten directions empowered Avalokiteśvara himself to guide beings, saying, 'Noble Avalokiteśvara, you have previously received the empowerment from eleven billion Buddhas to guide beings.' Due to the maturation of this, in extremely many Buddha-fields, emanations of the noble Avalokiteśvara will repeatedly appear, and in the future, in the Sahā world, a guide named Śākyamuni will appear. In the human realm, especially in the Prāta region of Dārak, in the northern snowy mountains (Ladakh), in order to increase people's faith and aspiration for the Buddha's teachings, it will be prophesied that a self-arisen image of the Eleven-Faced Thousand-Armed Avalokiteśvara will appear. At that time, those who have faith and aspiration for the image of the Eleven-Faced (Avalokiteśvara), and who recite its name, and who recite this dharani-mantra, will accomplish whatever they desire in this world, and will obtain the two wisdoms in the future. These things are extensively spoken of in the great Lotus Net Tantra. In this teaching, when the Bhagavan Śākyamuni was dwelling in the great sandalwood forest of the Himalayas, the noble Avalokiteśvara himself, with Śākyamuni as witness, spoke the Eleven-Faced (Avalokiteśvara) Dharani, as well as the Lotus Net Tantra, and the Thousand-Handed, Thousand-Eyed Dharani, and so forth. At that time, Śākyamuni also praised, saying, 'Excellent,' and bestowed blessings. These are the kriyā-caryā tantras. And the yoga tantra, the Lotus Crown Tantra, says: When the Bhagavan was dwelling in the realm of the gods, having become enlightened in the complete enjoyment body, the rays of his body worshiped all the Buddhas and gathered back, and the Bhagavan himself arose as the Eleven-Faced, Thousand-Armed form. Relying on this, the Dharani of Eleven-Faced Avalokiteśvara, as well as the condensed Six-Syllable Mantra, were spoken with limitless activities. Thus, after explaining how the deity manifested, and how the Dharani and Tantras were taught, the way the oral instructions came about is as follows: In Tibet, the emanation Dharma King Songtsen Gampo sent the translator Thonmi Sambhota to India, and translated twenty-one Sutras and Tantras, including the Thousand-Hand and Thousand-Eye Dharani, into Tibetan. The Nepalese Pandit Manjushri was invited, and he requested empowerments and transmissions. Later, the Great Compassionate One himself gave the empowerment and transmission of the Meaning Lineage; at that time, Padmasambhava of Oddiyana came through miraculous power and requested all the empowerments and transmissions from the King himself. In particular, when the emanation Migyur Dorje was twelve years old, on the tenth day of the waxing moon of the fifth month of the Fire Monkey year (uncertain), in the morning appearance, one with the appearance of the emanation of Oddiyana personally spoke. The practice methods, extensive, medium, and concise, that were personally spoken in this way are the Oral Transmission. Here, both Treasure and Oral Transmission are united, and the benefit and purpose here is: In the Dharani of Eleven-Faced Avalokiteśvara, it says: By reciting it once, the four root downfalls will be purified and cleansed. The five inexpiable sins will also be completely purified. And it says: By reciting it seven times, karmic obscurations will be purified.
