Moreover, the aspects of knowledge are also different, and the objects of focus, unconditioned and conditioned, are also different. One should know the minds of others. From application (sbyor ba), the knowledge of others' minds is distinguished. Although one can also know mental factors through this, it is said that one should know the minds of others, and it is not said that one should know the mental factors of application. From what has been done, one knows cessation, because it arises first in the continuum of what has been done. From the increase of causes of equal share, one knows non-arising, because the absence of defilements (zag med) is the result of all that was previously generated. Therefore, the Vaibhashikas explain that these seven causes establish the ten knowledges. However, it should be understood that these ten aspects, such as conventional knowledge, are well explained by the guide (Drenpa, i.e., the Buddha) from the nature, the antidote, the object, and the aspect of knowledge. It is said that "Dharma-knowledge (chos shes) is the antidote to desire" because Dharma-knowledge is the antidote to all five categories of what is to be abandoned in the desire realm. Moreover, the antidote, Dharma-knowledge, is included in the paths of seeing and cultivation, and it is said to be everything that focuses on the four truths. Not only that, but Dharma-knowledge can also act as an antidote to the two upper realms. Which are they? In the path of cultivation, Dharma-knowledge regarding cessation or Dharma-knowledge regarding the path are antidotes to all three realms, including the desire realm. Because noble ones who rely on the desire realm gradually abandon the nine to-be-abandoned-by-cultivation of the desire realm through Dharma-knowledge, and also generate the previously familiar path to abandon the to-be-abandoned-by-cultivation of the upper realms. Alternatively, the object of Dharma-knowledge regarding cessation and the path, since cessation and the path are both without defilements (zag med) and do not belong to any realm, the object is not inferior, so Dharma-knowledge focused on them could be an antidote to all three realms. If so, then would Dharma-knowledge regarding suffering and origin also become an antidote to the upper two realms? No, because the object of Dharma-knowledge regarding suffering and origin, the first two truths of the desire realm, are with defilements (zag bcas), so the object is inferior. Therefore, Dharma-knowledge focused on them is not an antidote to the upper two realms, because it is a mind that refutes (because the inferior cannot overcome the superior).

The टीका commentators explain it this way. Some argue that abandoning what should be abandoned is due to directly harming it, or viewing qualities contrary to what should be abandoned as virtues, thereby abandoning it through that force. Therefore, dharma-knowledge regarding suffering and its origin is not like that. (The reason for mentioning the path of cultivation without mentioning the path of seeing is that) one does not directly perceive what should be abandoned in the higher realms, nor does one view the contrary as a virtue; rather, one becomes weary by focusing on the truths of the lower realms. Dharma-knowledge focused on cessation and the path abandons through force because it views what should be abandoned in the higher realms and cessation as virtues, so it is explained. The dharma-knowledge of the path of seeing and the path of cessation are not antidotes to the higher realms because the wrong conceptions focused on the truths are different, just as knowing a rope in a high place does not abandon the wrong conception of grasping it as a person. Therefore, the टीका commentators say that the path of cultivation is mentioned because the abandonments by seeing of the two higher realms are to be destroyed by the subsequent knowledge of forbearance, so it is said. Then, would cessation and the path, included in subsequent knowledge and the path of cultivation, also become antidotes to the desire realm? Not all antidotes to what should be abandoned in the desire realm that are included in subsequent knowledge and the path of cultivation are like that, because (what should be abandoned in the desire realm) has already been abandoned by dharma-knowledge, and it is impossible for the antidotes of the higher realms to arise before what should be abandoned in the lower realms has been abandoned. Some teachers say that dharma-knowledge abandons the abandonments by cultivation of the higher realms because it has abandoned the afflictions that accompany the desire realm, which is its object, just as an arhat destroys the object. Subsequent knowledge does not have such a function, and that is unreasonable. If that were the case, dharma-knowledge of suffering and its origin would also become antidotes to the abandonments by cultivation of the higher realms because they are antidotes to the afflictions that accompany the desire realm, which is its object; this statement should be abandoned. Third, among these ten kinds of knowledge, dharma-knowledge and subsequent knowledge have sixteen aspects, such as impermanence. Conventional knowledge, those that exist in the path of joining, also have sixteen aspects like those two kinds of knowledge, and those that exist in other states also have other aspects, such as unattractiveness.
