How does one know it exists? Through the scriptures. The sutra says that the form of the three places encompasses all forms, that is, there is form that is visible and obstructive, form that is invisible but obstructive, and form that is neither visible nor obstructive. Because three kinds of form are mentioned. The form that is neither visible nor obstructive is none other than non-receptive. Furthermore, what are the uncontaminated dharmas? Those forms of the past, future, and present in which attachment or anger does not arise are called uncontaminated dharmas. From here to consciousness, immaculate form is spoken of. Because uncontaminated form is none other than uncontaminated discipline. Furthermore, in the Vinayavibhaṅga it says: The Blessed One was dwelling in the Ghositarama in Kauśāmbī. Then the venerable Revata went to the Blessed One, and having arrived, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. The venerable Revata said this to the Blessed One: Venerable sir, is there an object of merit arising from material things that is said to have great fruit, great benefit, great glory, and great extent? The Blessed One replied to him: Revata, there is. These seven Revatas are objects of merit arising from material things, having great fruit, great benefit, great glory, and great extent. A son or daughter of good family who possesses these, whether walking, sitting, lying down, or not lying down, will constantly and continuously increase merit. What are the seven? Revata, this son or daughter of good family offers a garden to the Sangha of monks of the four directions. Revata, this is the first object of merit arising from material things, having great fruit, great benefit, great glory, and great extent. A son or daughter of good family who possesses these, whether walking, sitting, lying down, or not lying down, will constantly and continuously

From there, it is said that it will only increase merit and only cause merit to arise nearby. Similarly, in that same monastery, building temples, providing bedding and cushions, offering daily sustenance, giving alms to guests who come and go suddenly, giving alms to the sick and those who care for the sick, and offering alms in the temple during bad weather such as wind and rain, are also combined and explained in detail. Similarly, for the seven increases of merit that do not arise from material sources, the venerable one also requested the Blessed One twice, saying, "Venerable, are the fruits of meritorious deeds that do not arise from material sources, from great to vast, measurable?" The Blessed One replied, "There are motivating factors." These seven motivating factors are meritorious deeds that do not arise from material sources, and the sons or daughters of good family with faith associated with them, from there until it only causes merit to arise nearby. So, what are these seven? This motivating factor is that a son or daughter of good family with faith hears that the Tathagata or the Shravaka disciples of the Tathagata are dwelling in a certain village or area, and having heard this, they obtain joy, great joy, vastness, goodness, and a state of definite arising. This motivating factor is the first meritorious deed that does not arise from material sources, from there until it only causes merit to arise nearby, as mentioned before. Similarly, when the Tathagata or his Shravaka disciples begin to come, embark on the path, arrive at nearby villages and cities, go to see and see, hear the Dharma, take refuge in the Three Jewels, and uphold the precepts, they obtain joy, great joy, vastness, goodness, and a state of definite arising. This motivating factor is the seventh meritorious deed that does not arise from material sources, with great fruit. Thus, the increase of merit, material sources and non-material sources

It also elaborates on the two sets of seven merits that do not arise from material things. Regarding these, the wise ones have summarized: Monasteries, dwellings, and hermitages, bedding, cushions, and implements, sudden illnesses of patients and attendants, and giving food in times of famine, these are the seven merits arising from material things. Abiding and departing, writing books and entering the path, going, hearing, and seeing, hearing the Dharma and the basis of learning, from which joy and faith arise, these are the seven merits that do not depend on material things. These are also not intermediate virtuous actions; if they were actions and thoughts, they would not arise in states such as sleep, because they arise from actions. Similarly, it is also because the paths of action, etc., that one has not done oneself are taught. For example, if someone instigates others to kill, steal, etc., then when others are killed or obtain wealth, etc., even when the instigator's bodily and verbal actions and thoughts are in a virtuous state, the actual actions of non-virtuous paths of action such as killing and stealing will arise, because it is said in the scriptures. Therefore, this is not an action, because the action and thought are virtuous. The word "etc." means that when the Bhagavan teaches the twelve sources, he says: "Monks, the eye is an internal source, caused by the four great elements, having form, invisible, and with resistance," up to the body. "Monks, forms, etc., are external sources, caused by the four great elements, having form, visible, and with resistance," up to touch. "Monks, Dharma is an external source, not included in the eleven sources, invisible, and without resistance." Therefore, regarding the non-action here, if it is said to have no form, it should be said to be non-material, but the scriptures do not say that. Furthermore, it will not become the Noble Eightfold Path, because when in meditative absorption, the actions of body and speech disappear, and therefore right speech, right action, and right livelihood, etc., will disappear. Therefore, right speech, etc., mentioned in the Eightfold Path should be abandoned.
