Holding hands, merely frolicking in delight, and the Paranirmitavasavartin gods merely looking engage in sexual activity. The Vaibhashikas say that the greater the realm, the greater the desire, therefore all engage in sexual activity by coupling in pairs, because the sense faculties with form are definite in their respective objects. The proponents of the Sthavira school say that this indicates the measure of time. If seeds do not arise, how can they be called gods and goddesses? (In the Four Great Kings) the size of a child of five years old to (in the Thirty-three, the Free from Strife, the Joyful, the Delight in Emanation, and the Others' Emanation Controlling, respectively, six, seven, eight, and nine years old,) gods and goddesses between the ages of ten, in the Four Great Kings, those who are friends, transform into rows of gods and goddesses and are born quickly, therefore, whoever is born in whose lap, they are called their gods and goddesses. Among them, in the Four Great Kings it is five years old, in the Thirty-three it is six years old, in the Free from Strife it is seven years old, in the Joyful it is eight years old, in the Delight in Emanation it is nine years old, and in the Others' Emanation Controlling it is about ten years old. The gods with form are born with bodies that are completely perfect in size and with clothes (because they have abandoned shame and embarrassment). (They also die with clothes on.) All the gods of the Form Realm speak the truth because they have abandoned falsehood, therefore they speak the language of the noble ones. The arising of desire in beings due to differences is stated in the sutras: The three kinds of arising of desire that are spoken of are the gods of the Desire Realm and humans. Among them, the humans of the Desire Realm and the four classes of gods up to the Joyful are the arising of desire in which those who abide near desire are empowered by mastery. (That is, they enjoy what arises from their own maturation.) The Delight in Emanation is the arising of desire in which one has mastery over one's own emanations. (That is, one enjoys one's own emanations as one desires.) The Others' Emanation Controlling is the arising of desire in which one has mastery over the emanations of others. (That is, as one desires

Because both themselves and others have power over emanation. (The arising of bliss is: As stated in the sutras,) the bliss arising from detachment (from desires), the bliss of joy arising from samadhi, and the arising of bliss without joy. These three kinds of arising bliss, as explained, are the nine grounds because each of the first three dhyanas has three kinds. Among them, the three of the first dhyana are the bliss arising from detachment from desire, the three of the second are the bliss of joy arising from samadhi (abandoning vitarka and vicara), and the three of the third are the bliss without joy. (Therefore, people of desire are not like that.) If so, then the special being born in the first dhyana would not be considered as the arising of bliss, because it is a place of equanimity, so there is no joy. If you say so, the Vaibhashikas say that this is only showing the majority of cases. For example, in the sutra (Differentiation), it says, what is supernormal knowledge? It is virtuous wisdom. It is said like that. If from here the upper realms such as the Four Great Kings are stacked (the twenty-two abodes of gods that are spoken of), then what is the measure of the distance between those places? As far as the distance from one's own abode to the lower abode, so far is it from one's own abode to the upper abode. For example, from the Four Great Kings (the four steps of the fundamental abode) to the lower Jambudvipa is forty thousand yojanas, and similarly, to the Thirty-three is also that much (also forty thousand yojanas). From the Thirty-three to the lower Jambudvipa is eighty thousand yojanas, and similarly, to the Yama is also eighty thousand yojanas, and so on. From the earth, from the very bottom up to Akanishta there are forty thousand yojanas, and then to the Akanishta it is said that there are one hundred and sixty thousand yojanas. How does one go to those places? Unless one has miraculous powers, or relies on another who has miraculous powers, those beings of the lower realms and grounds cannot go to the upper realms, nor can they see the beings of the upper realms. Therefore, those who see the upper realms (higher than themselves) are emanations, and not inferior, supreme realms, so the lower ones do not see the forms of the upper ones. Then the upper ones
