As it is said, everything is impermanent. Especially, in this world, all beings of the three grades, high, medium, and low, who have been born in the past, are being born now, and will be born in the future, are certain to die just like you, uncertain when they will die, and unable to be helped by anything at the time of death. The first three points are certain. First, the reason why death is inevitable is stated in the Compendium of Special Topics: "For all who are born, death is inevitable." Second, it is uncertain when death will occur. The Bodhicaryavatara states: "Tomorrow and the next life, which will come first is uncertain, so abandon the affairs of tomorrow and strive to do the things of the next life now." Third, nothing can help at the time of death. The Padmasambhava's Testament states: "Even if the King of Medicine himself comes, he cannot extend life when the lifespan is exhausted; there is no appeal to the law of the great king; touching with hands cannot stop death; even the most eloquent cannot repel death with mantras; no amount of wealth can bribe death; cowards cannot escape to other places; even the most eloquent cannot argue." Just like the sun setting behind the mountains, no one, regardless of status or ability, can prevent it. Moreover, taking our place as an example, none of the beings born in all the worlds, the houses built, the friends gathered, the wealth and food accumulated, are permanent. The Vinaya Sutra states: "Those who are born will eventually die, those who accumulate will eventually scatter, those who gather will eventually separate, and those who hoard will eventually be exhausted." Among these four lines, you have now experienced the impermanence of the last line, that those who are born will eventually die. Now is the time to receive the guru's instructions. There are many traditions of the new and old schools regarding the method of instruction. Now, I will explain the instructions of our own Dzogchen tradition, the method of liberation in the bardo for people of medium capacity. From the time you were afflicted by the disease of death the day before yesterday and yesterday, from the very beginning, from birth in the mother's womb, it is called the birth-place bardo. From the affliction of the disease of death until the internal breath ceases, it is called the death-approaching bardo. From the cessation of the internal breath until the spontaneously accomplished

The state between the arising of appearances is called the Bardo of Dharmata. From the dissolution of spontaneously arising appearances until the grasping of the next birth in the future, it is called the Bardo of Existence. Among these four Bardos, the method of introducing the latter three is as follows: By clarifying the Bardo of the Moment of Death, one demonstrates the instructions for recognition and transference of consciousness. By clarifying the Bardo of Spontaneous Arising Dharmata, one recognizes that all three, sound, light, and rays, are self-appearances, thereby generating faith and certainty. By clarifying the Bardo of Karmic Existence, one bestows the secret instruction on how to attain a good rebirth through aspiration alone. Introduction to the Bardo of the Moment of Death. Firstly, clarifying the Bardo of the Moment of Death has two aspects: general and specific. The first, in general, is from the root verses of the Peaceful and Wrathful Bardo: "Alas, when the Bardo of the Moment of Death dawns upon me, abandon attachment and clinging to all things. Do not be distracted in the clear state of the instructions. Transfer your own awareness into the unborn realm of space. The compounded body of flesh and blood is about to separate. Know that impermanence is death." As it is said. Secondly, specifically, the ways of dying for us sentient beings are numerous, but in brief, there are two: dying untimely and dying at the appointed time. Firstly, for those who die untimely due to sudden causes, there is no time for the stages of dissolution, etc., to occur in a definite order, so it is not discussed. Secondly, for those who die at the appointed time, when the three, life, karma, and merit, are exhausted, the dissolution of the five elements and the five objects, the departure of the five winds, and the gathering of appearances, etc., occur in a definite order. The three, appearance, increase, and attainment, near attainment, and the ground luminosity also appear in sequence. Having understood the meaning of these methods, firstly, for those who die untimely and suddenly, and for ordinary individuals who are not familiar with the path, it is important to forcefully apply transference of consciousness. As the Great Orgyen said: "Whoever has the great wisdom of awareness, if they have not fallen under the power of delusion in this life, connect them with forceful transference of consciousness. By this, accomplishment will surely occur, and they will not be harmed by demons." As it is said, if it is certain that transference of consciousness will be successful, then great benefit will occur in that place. Secondly, for those who die at the appointed time, and for those who are familiar with the path through meditation.
