The various deities dissolve into the main deity. Abide in a state of non-objectification of the main deity, or contemplate going to Sukhavati in the west. Alas, may the consciousness of the deceased, along with its support, swiftly transfer like lightning into the heart of the Buddha. May they instantly attain Buddhahood in the indivisible expanse, and may their body become an ornament of the Great Bliss realm. Recite these words and make many sounds of ཕཊཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari: फट्, Romanized Sanskrit: phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: Phat!). Then, according to the circumstances, perform the dedication and aspiration prayers in detail or briefly. Next is the cutting of the obstacles of the deceased: Ring the bell and scatter flowers, and recite ཧཱུྃ་ཧྲཱིཿ (Tibetan, Devanagari: हुँ ह्रीः, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ hrīḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum, Hrih!). By the compassion of the Buddhas of the ten directions and the power of the truth of our pure intention, may the patrons, along with their people, wealth, and retinue, have auspiciousness, glory, happiness, and perfect abundance. Recite these words. Then perform self-generation as the deity, offerings, and praise. The stages of dissolution, dedication, aspiration, and auspicious wishes. These can be done briefly, or one can abide in non-objectification. Second, the method of bestowing instructions on beings who are near death and about to experience the separation of body and mind. Second, the method of bestowing instructions on beings who are near death and about to experience the separation of body and mind is as follows: When arriving at the bedside of a patient who is certain to die, first, without having practiced beforehand, from the six dharmas that liberate, if there is a "tied liberation" (contact liberation), tie it to the heart; show the "seeing liberation" to the eyes; proclaim profound dharani mantras and beneficial names of the Buddhas, as well as tied liberation and hearing liberation, into the ears; administer nectar pills, medicines, and other sacred substances through the mouth as "tasting liberation"; if there is a phowa pill, grind it and apply it to the crown of the head. Have them confess and vow not to repeat the sins they have committed, instigated, or rejoiced in. At the time of empowerment, from taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, to bestowing vows, giving and receiving vows, etc., make sure they understand the meaning of the empowerment. Then, just before the outer breath ceases, the posture of the corpse can be the lotus position, or as it is said in the scriptures, lying on the right side. However, if the posture can be adjusted before the breath ceases, then adjust it; otherwise, after the breath has ceased, do not touch or adjust the corpse. There should be no sounds of wailing or clamor nearby, to avoid causing negative influences, and keep it calm and peaceful. Do not leave those who have broken vows or committed sins near the corpse, especially when facing the supports. The closest relatives of the deceased should not cry or shout loudly. Be sure to instill the teachings that are very easy to clarify in the mind at the time of breath cessation. The lama should also not do it for the sake of money...

If the transference of consciousness (Powa) is practiced with love and compassion, without any attachment, the benefits are inconceivable. First, take refuge and generate the mind of enlightenment (Bodhicitta), and proclaim as many names of the Buddhas as you know. As the body's warmth gradually retracts from the extremities, and when the femoral artery has ceased and the carotid artery is near cessation, sit facing the pillow, and from the hairline to eight finger-widths above the crown of the head, twist and pull up a portion of the hair. In a voice that is neither too loud nor too soft, call out his/her name, saying: 'O son or daughter of such and such a lineage, you are now facing the moment of death, when body and mind separate, so recognize this death. Whatever you have in this life – body, house, possessions, utensils, friends, relatives, work, activities, and so on – do not have any attachment or clinging to them. Even if you are attached to them, they will only become obstacles and hindrances on the path to liberation, and there will be no benefit whatsoever. Let go with an open mind, and cut off all ties completely. This impermanent death is not happening to you alone. From the universal monarch who rules the four continents down to the infant born yesterday, death is certain to occur, so do not be afraid or suffer. To encounter such a profound lama and instruction at the time of death is a sign of good fortune and merit. Do not let your mind wander elsewhere, but with joy, meditate in this way: Visualize your own body as the form of the venerable Vajrayogini, with nothing inside – no flesh, blood, bones, organs, etc. – completely empty. In the very center, visualize the central channel (Umay), like a hollow bamboo tube, clear on the outside and empty inside, like a pillar standing upright, its upper end opening at the Brahma aperture at the crown of the head, appearing white. In the space about an elbow's length above, on a lotus and sun-moon cushion, visualize the root guru in whom you have faith and devotion (Dharmakaya Vajradhara, or Orgyen Rinpoche), in the form of Amitabha Buddha, surrounded by swirling rainbows of light, and pray with unwavering faith and devotion.' Recite in a melodious voice: Namo Guru (Tibetan: ན་མོ་གུ་རུ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: नमो गुरु, Sanskrit Romanization: namo guru, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage to the Guru). From the ultimate Akanishta paradise of the Great Bliss Wheel, possessing compassion that surpasses all Buddhas,
