In short, in order to purify sins and obscurations, one should strive as the Buddhas have said in the confession of the four powers. Among them, the power of reliance is like taking refuge, generating the mind of enlightenment, and the four immeasurables; the power of regret is confessing misdeeds with a mind of remorse; the power of resolve is not to commit such misdeeds again in the future; and the power of remedial action includes recitation, uttering the names of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and reciting profound sutras that teach emptiness, and so on, there are many. These can also purify many sins and downfalls, but the most important thing is to realize the meaning of selflessness. If you meditate on this, you can cut off sins and downfalls from the root, but others cannot do that much. For beginners who do not have the ability to realize emptiness, or even if they do, in order to purify sins and downfalls, they can recite the dharani of the Unconfused, which the Buddhas have spoken of, the Hundred Syllable Mantra, the Ushnishavijaya Dharani, and other special dharani mantras, as well as confession texts. It is better to recite the names of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas that appear in the Mahayana sutras, especially the names of Akshobhya and Medicine Buddha, again and again. Just as planting various seeds such as barley, beans, etc., if there are no other obstacles, the respective fruits will appear without error, and it is impossible for them to appear in error. Similarly, the seeds of external objects will also produce their respective fruits without error. The white and black karmas included in the internal self and other streams will each produce their respective ripening fruits without error, so confession and restraint are very important. Non-virtuous actions lead to rebirth in the lower realms, and rebirth in the lower realms is rebirth in samsara, so liberation from the lower realms can be regarded as liberation from a particular samsara, but it cannot be regarded as liberation from samsara. Because liberation from samsara is defined as liberation from the whole of samsara. A qualified person who desires liberation from samsara is also defined as a person who desires liberation from the whole of samsara. It is not enough to merely desire liberation from a particular samsara, that is, the lower realms. In order to truly generate the desire for liberation from the whole of samsara, one must not only think of the lower realms, but also think of the suffering of the higher realms, which is encompassed by birth, old age, sickness, and death, and generate the desire to be liberated from them, then one has generated the desire for liberation from the whole of samsara.

To take birth as gods and humans, one takes birth through the power of compassion and aspiration, and even consciously takes birth in order to do special things for others and to practice the Dharma, but even so, that is being born in a place of samsara, but cannot be considered as truly born in samsara. Truly being in samsara refers to being connected by the power of karma and afflictions, and there are still many details. Merely taking birth in a place of samsara is not considered being born in samsara, such as Prince Siddhartha, Songtsen Gampo, and Je Rinpoche. Therefore, one should distinguish between the cause of samsara, the actual samsara, the place of samsara, and those who wander in samsara. Do not confuse all of these together. The root or first cause of samsara is ignorance, what propels samsara is karma, and what accomplishes samsara are craving and grasping with afflictions. One must understand these differences. In detail, there are many ways to wander in samsara under the power of karma and afflictions, but if one considers the main aspect, because the cause is the truth of origination, that is, under the power of karma and afflictions, the result is taking birth in samsara with three sufferings, which constitutes the aggregates of the truth of suffering of samsara. Furthermore, due to the power of afflictions and ignorance, one accumulates contaminated black and white karma, and nourishes them with craving and grasping. In this way, karma becomes powerful and potent, thereby connecting consciousness to good or bad realms in the next life, and gradually forming name and form, the six sense bases, etc. On top of that, contact, feeling, and old age and death will also gradually form, which is just a symbolic representation of the process of the twelve links of dependent origination. In short, as Je Rinpoche's song of experience says: "If you do not contemplate the faults of the truth of suffering, the desire for liberation will not arise as it should; if you do not contemplate the process of the truth of origination of samsara, you will not know how to cut the root of samsara." Therefore, like this, it is very important to understand the differences between the cause, the truth of origination, and the result, the truth of suffering. In short, like this, understanding the faults of samsara and generating the desire to be liberated from samsara is generating renunciation, and also generating the pursuit of liberation. Merely generating these is also good, but merely that...
