It should be known that, as it is said, in the time of arising and ceasing, one does not go anywhere, and the reasoning should be extended and applied to all other actions as well. In the third chapter, when examining the faculties, the six objects are taken as the objects to be grasped, the six faculties as the graspers, and the six individuals as the apprehenders. This is not merely an establishment in terms of names, but one must recognize that these phenomena are held to exist by their own nature. If it were as it is grasped, then no action, agent, or actor could be established, and one must be certain as it is determined by reason. And, at that time, when the eye is taken as the seer, one should be truly convinced that the Dharma is extremely reasonable in the sense of being like an illusion. Just as it is said, "Here, the nature of the seer itself is not the seeing itself," etc., the eye does not see form by its own nature; if it did, the eye would have to see itself. Because the eye cannot see the eye, the eye's seeing of form is not self-existent. Similarly, it should be extended to the ear hearing sounds, etc., to explain. In short, the seer depends on the seeing, and the seer itself also arises dependent on the seer; other than that, no cause for accomplishment is seen. As it is said, the eye seeing form, etc., arises in mutual dependence, and one must be certain that it is not established by its own nature. In the fourth chapter, when examining the aggregates, etc., the sutra says: "Form is like a mass of foam, feeling is like bubbles, perception is like a mirage, formations are like a plantain tree, and consciousness is like an illusion. This is the teaching of the Kinsman of the Sun." Just as the five aggregates are said to be like a mass of foam, etc., which are without inherent existence. If one realizes that one, such as the self or form, is not established by its own nature, then one should know and be able to know by extending that reasoning to others. Just as it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "As you know the notion of self, so should the wise apply it to all with intelligence and cultivate it." And as it is said in the Compendium Sutra: "As is the self, so are all sentient beings; as are all sentient beings, so are all phenomena." And as it is said in the Four Hundred Verses: "Whatever is the view of one, that is the view of all." And the actual
