These three are characterized by dharma, being non-attachment, because they possess the nature of contentment with few desires. These two summarize the principles of the noble lineage, and the last is characterized by delighting in renunciation and meditation. You have a function, because you can permanently pacify the objects you grasp as your own and the desires for them, along with both of their times. The first three pacify the desire to grasp robes and other objects as one's own. Secondly, regarding the actual method of meditation, there are two methods of meditation: tranquility (shamatha) and insight (vipassana). The first of these has two aspects: a brief explanation and a detailed explanation. The first is: "Entering into the impure, and mindfulness of breathing in and breathing out, desires and conceptual thoughts, etc." This is what is said. This has two aspects: the meaning of the words and the general meaning. The first is: Thus, possessing lineage, there is a way to enter into that meditation, because those with strong desire enter into meditating on the impure. Those with particularly strong conceptual thoughts enter into meditating on mindfulness of breathing in and breathing out. The second is: The realization of the footprints leading to liberation is also the nature and explanation of the path to liberation. For it, from the perspective of the basis, there are three paths: the Hearer, Solitary Realizer, etc. Each of these also has five paths, such as the path of accumulation. Here, if accompanied by retinue, it is endowed with the five aggregates. On the path of accumulation, the power of hearing and thinking is strong, but it is not definite, because the last moment of the path of accumulation is mainly born from meditation. This is because tranquility is the main thing there. On the path of application and the other three paths, although what is born from meditation is the main thing, it is not that there is no hearing and thinking, because noble disciples must also engage in hearing and thinking. The method of meditation will be explained later. Secondly, the detailed explanation is divided into the method of meditating on the impure and the method of meditating on mindfulness of breathing in and breathing out. The first of these is divided into the method of meditating on it and its classification. The first is: "For all skeletons and flesh, up to the ocean of bones, expanding and contracting is the first step. It is said that purification is done by releasing from the foot bones to half the skull. By holding the mind between the eyebrows, the application of mind is perfected." This is what is said. The samadhi of the impure, in terms of dharma character, has four aspects from the perspective of the object of meditation:

Because there exist complete offerings, complete consumption or scattering, complete burning and destruction, and meditation focusing on corpses. How do these four exist as antidotes for meditation? Because they are practiced as antidotes to attachment to color, shape, touch, and service. By whom is meditation practiced? Because all those with attachment can practice it. This meditation, in its nature, you have three: Imagine that the bone of your own toe or the bone of your forehead has rotted and fallen off, and that the remaining bone is as white as a skeleton. Then, similarly, imagine all the bones of the body, and that skeletons cover everything from the temple to the outer sea. When gathering, gradually gather them back, imagining that your own body alone becomes a skeleton. This is the meditation method for beginners. Abandon the foot bone and imagine the remainder, and similarly, abandon half of the skull and meditate on the other half. This is said to be the meditation method for those who have been fully trained. Abandoning even the meditation on half of the skull, and focusing the mind on the area only up to the eyebrows as a skeleton, this is the meditation method of a yogi who has perfected the impure contemplation. The second is: Impurity, non-attachment, the ten grounds, the object of desire, appearances created by humans. Thus it is said. The samadhi of meditating on impurity, in its nature, has four aspects: self-nature, mind-basis, object, and body-basis. The essence is non-attachment; the mind-basis is the four dhyanas and their four close absorptions, as well as special dhyana and desire mind, which are the ten grounds; the object is the outward-facing appearance of desire, focusing on colors, etc.; the basis is created by people in the three continents. The reason why the method of meditating on impurity with formless samadhi is not explained here is that meditating on impurity is focusing on form, while the formless does not focus on form. The third is mindfulness of breathing in and out, with three aspects: its classification, six methods of meditation, and its object. The first is: Mindfulness of breathing in and out is, the wisdom ground, the five realms of activity, the wind, the desire realm basis, not an outsider. Thus it is said. Breathing is wind, inhaling is in
