Now, without investigation or analysis, it is merely a conceptual imputation, or it is established based on worldly terminology and commonly accepted meaning. That is, if one analyzes beings such as gods and humans with reason, one cannot find the meaning of the imputation, but without analysis, one imputes conceptually on top of their respective bases of imputation, such as the aggregates, and then establishes them as terms. For example, if one examines and searches for a chariot among its own components, one cannot find it. However, without such investigation or analysis, it is imputed and established on the basis of imputation, just like that. As it is said in the Sutra: Just as by relying on the collection of limbs, it is said to be a chariot, similarly, by relying on the aggregates, it is conventionally called a sentient being. Just like that. When searching for a chariot among its own components using the sevenfold reasoning, one cannot find the meaning of the imputation, but it is also established merely as a term. As it is said in the Entering the Middle Way: It is not established as that itself or in the world, by the sevenfold analysis, but here in the world without analysis, it is imputed by relying on its own limbs. Just like that. Just as the example of the chariot shows that persons are without inherent existence, similarly, one must understand that all phenomena are without inherent existence. As it is said in the Compendium: Just as I am, know all sentient beings to be; just as all sentient beings are, know all phenomena to be. As it is said. If persons and chariots are established as merely conceptual imputations, then if one mistakes a mottled rope for a snake, or a stump for a person, would those also become snakes and persons? If one asks this, it is not the same. This is because for those two, snake and person are not commonly known or accepted in worldly terminology. But on top of the aggregates there is a self, and on top of the collection of components of a chariot there is a chariot, which is commonly known and accepted in worldly terminology. This is not because of whether or not something exists in reality, but because of commonly accepted meaning and convention. Because the world does not consider a mottled rope and a stump to be a snake and a person. Even if someone mistakenly perceives them as such, that perception is a wrong cognition. Therefore, that cognition is contradicted by the valid cognition of worldly terminology and other conventions and commonly accepted meanings. On top of the aggregates there is a person, and on top of the components of a chariot there is a chariot.

Since the world recognizes and accepts the existence of things like horses, the world's recognition, names, and measures are not harmed by other factors. Furthermore, it is reasonable because, for a single person, gradually there are names like child, youth, old person, and also ordination, monk, lama, etc., and however they are established, they are well-established conventionally. Moreover, this is the way they are established merely through imputation by conceptual thought. All phenomena are also established by the power of conceptual thought, as it is said in the sutra: "They are established by the power of conceptual thought. By the power of conceptual thought, the world is distinguished." For example, before these Tibetan letters existed, Thumi Sambhota and others newly created the shapes of the letters and named them, saying, "This is the shape of this letter." Later, it is reasonable to accept similar cases in the same way. Therefore, for these shapes of letters, in other parts of this world or in other realms, if they are not known as letters, it is not contradictory for them to think that they are not the shapes of letters. However, in this place, it is not appropriate to think that way. For example, it is permissible for those in other places to think of this nearby mountain as a distant mountain, but those living here must acknowledge it as a nearby mountain, so it is not permissible to think of it as a distant mountain. Furthermore, if inanimate pillars, vases, etc., could also become persons, that would be too much. If you think so, there is no fault, because here, the name of a person is used for something complete with the aggregates and life force, etc. If these are not present here, the name of a person cannot be obtained, but it is not necessarily the same in other places, because in various realms, names are also various. Similarly, good, bad, and medium, as well as superior, inferior, and intermediate, large and small, long and short, etc., are mostly established in relation to the mind, so all of these are the domain of great noble beings, and ordinary people cannot fully understand them. In short, all of these are established by signs and names in relation to each person's wishes or individual conceptual thoughts. Otherwise, just as in this place, a swollen belly is called a vase, it would be a fault if it had to be called that way in other places as well.
