Although there are various ways of naming things, only when three characteristics are complete can it be considered existent, and if they are not complete, it is non-existent. As stated in the Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path (Lamrim Chenmo): "If one asks, in what way are existence and non-existence established in terms of convention? It is that if a phenomenon appears to a conventional consciousness, and that appearance is not contradicted by another conventional valid cognition, and also the reasoning that analyzes whether it inherently exists or not does not contradict it, then it is considered to exist conventionally; the opposite of that is considered non-existent." This is because it is as stated. Furthermore, here, according to the view of Jetsun Gendun Gyatso, the collection of wooden pieces that serve as the basis for the designation of a pillar, although appearing as a pillar, is not actually a pillar, because it is the basis for the designation of a pillar. For example, the aggregates of a person are not the person, although they appear as such. What then is a pillar? It is merely a designation imputed upon the wood that serves as its basis, just as a person is imputed upon the aggregates. If it is argued that seeing the wood that serves as the basis does not equate to seeing the pillar, because the pillar is merely a quality imputed upon it, then there is no fault in this. Just as seeing the physical body, including the head, feet, hands, and clothes, is not seeing the person, yet seeing it can be considered seeing the person. Similarly, this should be applied to phenomena such as pots. This is considered the system that prevents subtle refutations. Some scholars say that this is not reasonable. However, I think that although I do not agree with this view in the lower schools of thought, it is entirely reasonable in the Consequentialist (Prasangika) school. This is because, just as in the consciousness of a child, the reflection in a mirror appears as a face in every aspect, similarly, in the consciousness of ordinary beings, whatever phenomena such as pillars appear, they appear as inherently existent. Moreover, these phenomena do not appear as designations imputed upon their respective bases, but rather the basis and the designation are mixed together and appear in an indistinguishable manner. Therefore, one should not, as it appears, conflate the basis and the designation, because Je Tsongkhapa himself stated that, relative to the same basis, the basis cannot be its designation. Furthermore, there is much more to say.

Although there is much more to be said, this is just a brief mention here. This difficult point needs to be understood in detail from the teachings of Je Tsongkhapa and his disciples. As mentioned before, analyze in such a way that you must start with the subtle refutations. After refuting in this way, if you recognize that there is no way to find inherent existence through rational analysis, you should not assume that you have gained the view of Madhyamaka just by that. Just knowing that much is not difficult, but the combination of the fact that not even a particle of inherent existence exists, and that in conventional truth, all the phenomena of samsara and nirvana can be established without contradiction, is very difficult. Therefore, the view of Madhyamaka is also difficult to obtain. In the scattered writings of Je Tsongkhapa, it says: Therefore, if one thinks that things cannot be grasped anywhere when they are thoroughly broken down in time and space, and merely having this understanding is considered to be gaining the view of emptiness, then even those with very dull faculties who have not studied much can understand it, so there is no difficulty. That alone is not enough. In ultimate truth, all fixations are pacified, and in conventional truth, all the establishments of samsara and nirvana are accepted as like illusions. This combination of the two is difficult, so realizing emptiness is difficult. The Great and Small Stages of the Path also say the same thing, so merely superficial analysis is not enough; it must be truly correct analysis. Therefore, although all phenomena are without inherent existence, all the actions of samsara and nirvana, especially the way in which good and bad deeds produce results, etc., the conventional dependent origination is not deceptive. The Samadhiraja Sutra says: Like illusions, water bubbles, dreams, and lightning, all phenomena are like the moon in water. Sentient beings who go to the next world after death, born from the force of karma, although invisible, karma is not done in vain; good and bad ripen into results as they are. This method of reasoning is good, subtle and difficult to see, it is the realm of the Buddhas. Therefore, this reasoning is also the view of Nagarjuna and his disciples. The Bodhicittavivarana says: If one knows that all phenomena are empty, why rely on karma and its results? This is more rare than rare, this is more wonderful than wonderful. Chandrakirti also said: Just like those reflections, etc.
