Those consciousnesses of the six sense faculties, such as the eye, along with their respective objects, which are obscured by temporary causes of delusion, are considered mistaken relative to worldly convention. Those sense consciousnesses and their objects that are not obscured by these causes are considered correct relative to worldly convention. This distinction depends on whether worldly convention can recognize the consciousness possessing an object as a deluded consciousness. Relative to worldly convention, mistaken consciousnesses possessing an object are those whose appearing object is recognized as a delusion by worldly convention. Conversely, correct consciousnesses possessing an object are those whose appearing object is not recognized as a delusion by worldly convention. For example, the mind that apprehends a reflection of a face as the face itself can recognize that its appearing object is a delusion. However, the mind that apprehends the face as being established by its own nature cannot recognize that its appearing object is a delusion. What is the difference between temporary and ultimate delusion? There is a difference: the innate self-grasping obscured by the habitual tendencies of the delusion of dualistic appearance is the ultimate delusion. The consciousnesses obscured by temporary causes of delusion, such as cataracts, jaundice, eating spoiled food, white sand near sunlight in spring, illusion, sleep, bad philosophical tenets, and fallacious reasoning, are temporary deluded consciousnesses. This is because, under the influence of these causes, these consciousnesses become deluded with respect to either their appearing object or their object of attachment. Furthermore, the distinction between correct and incorrect relative to worldly convention depends on whether worldly convention can recognize that appearances are not established as they appear. Objects such as pillars, pots, and sprouts, along with the consciousnesses possessing these objects, are considered correct relative to worldly convention. Without relying on the realization of emptiness, worldly convention cannot recognize that appearances are not established as they appear. Objects such as water in a mirage, reflections in a mirror, and people in dreams, along with the consciousnesses possessing these objects, are considered mistaken relative to worldly convention.

Because depending on what the world deems acceptable, one can realize that appearances do not exist as they appear. Because what the world deems acceptable cannot realize that a sprout that appears truly, in dependence on itself, does not exist as it appears. However, it can realize that an image of a face that appears as a face, in dependence on itself, does not exist as it appears. However, if it is a falsehood that depends on worldly cognition, then there must be a conventional valid cognition that can realize that it does not exist as it appears. But it is not necessarily the case that everything that appears to the world as it deems acceptable can be realized as not existing as it appears. Because the coemergent self-grasping, defiled by bad tenets, together with its object of attachment, although it is a falsehood dependent on it, the world as it deems acceptable cannot realize that it does not exist as it appears. If it is an object, either correct or incorrect, that depends on worldly cognition, then it does not necessarily exist. Because the object of attachment of the coemergent self-grasping—true existence—is correct in dependence on it; and sound is permanent and an image is a face, which are incorrect in dependence on it, but do not actually exist. If it is a possessor of an object, either correct or incorrect, that depends on worldly cognition, then it must exist. Because the consciousness that apprehends what is correct or incorrect, whether it is concordant or discordant with meaning, must exist. In general, in conventional truth, there is no distinction between correct and incorrect. Because in conventional truth, there is no distinction between existing as it appears and not existing as it appears. Because if it is conventional truth, then it is necessarily not existing as it appears. Because if that is the case, then necessarily the way it appears and the way it exists are not the same. Because if that is the case, then necessarily the way it appears seems true, but the way it exists is established as false. Therefore, a face and its image both appear to be true and are equally not established as they appear, so there is no difference between correct and incorrect between the two. However, it should be said that it exists as it appears as a face, otherwise it would cause damage to all conventions. Furthermore, in conventional truth, there is no distinction between correct and incorrect, because there is no true conventional truth. Because if the correct, which is distinguished between the two, correct and incorrect, must be true. If it is true, then it must not be false. If that is the case, then it must not be conventional truth. So, karma and its effects are not true.
