If the elimination of the conventional is established, then the negation of the ultimate must be obstructed, because the two are mutually exclusive real contradictories. As it is said in the "Light on the Middle Way": 'Those characteristics of phenomena that exist by mutually excluding each other, if one does not negate the other and establish the other, will not exist, and it is unreasonable to belong to a situation where neither exists.' Because it is said so. It is also established by scripture that the number of knowable things is definitely two truths, as it is said in the sutra: 'The all-knowing one, without relying on others, himself teaches the two truths, what is conventional and what is ultimate, the third truth does not exist at all.' Because it is said so. Second, to explain the meaning of each division separately. As it is said in the "Entering the Middle Way": 'Seeing all things as true and false, one obtains the two natures of things, what is seen as true is the ultimate, and what is seen as false is said to be the conventional truth.' As it is said, on top of all phenomena, there are two kinds of natures: the ultimate nature, which is empty of inherent existence, and the conventional nature, which exists in name. On top of these, the ultimate nature is that which cannot be found by searching for the meaning to be expressed with the ultimate reasoning, and the conventional nature is that which exists in name without searching for the meaning to be expressed. Although their definitions are slightly different, what is important here is the meaning obtained by the wisdom of the ultimate observation that one has seen oneself. The definition of ultimate truth, for example: the sprout is empty of inherent existence. The ultimate measure of observation is, as it is said in the sutra: 'What is seen as true.' It is the measure of ultimate observation. That is, it is a measure that sees the ultimate reality of forms and so on. However, if it is said that the meaning obtained by the ultimate observation of the continuum of the Buddhas and noble ones does not fully include the meaning obtained by the general ultimate observation, then it is correct. From the perspective of the nature or the basis of emptiness, the ultimate truth can be divided into two types: the subtle selflessness of persons and the subtle selflessness of phenomena, or the sixteen emptinesses such as the emptiness of inner emptiness. From the perspective of verbal expression, it can be divided into nominal ultimate and non-nominal ultimate.

Two truths. Firstly, there are two types of ultimate truth: the concordant object and the concordant subject. The first is like the aspect of a sprout appearing as truly empty, like an illusion. The second is like the subsequent inferential valid cognition that realizes it. Although these two are merely labeled as ultimate truth, they are not actually ultimate truth. Non-conceptual ultimate truth is also divided into two types according to the way it is expressed: the object ultimate truth and the subject ultimate truth. The first is like emptiness; ultimate truth, suchness, emptiness, the perfectly established, the ultimate limit, and the realm of phenomena are all the same in meaning. The second is like the wisdom that directly realizes emptiness in the continuum of a learner. Although some assert that this is a non-conceptual, truly ultimate truth, it is not actually ultimate truth. The object attained by the valid cognition that analyzes conventions, the definition of conventional truth, an example being a sprout. The valid cognition that analyzes conventions, as it says, "What is seen is false," is a conventional analyzing valid cognition, which is a valid cognition that sees the nature of false conventionalities such as form. However, the object attained by the valid cognition that analyzes conventions in the continuum of a noble being is not universally included in the object attained by the valid cognition that analyzes conventions in general. Conventional truth, suchness, and nominal truth are the same in meaning, and if it is a phenomenon other than ultimate truth, then it is necessarily conventional truth, because there is no third phenomenon that is not one of the two truths. In this system, generally, conventional truth is not divided into correct and incorrect, but relative to the worldly understanding of conventional truth, there is a division into correct and incorrect. As it says in the *Entering the Middle Way*: "What is seen as false is also considered to be of two types: those with clear senses and those with impaired senses. The consciousness of those with impaired senses is said to be inverted in relation to the consciousness of those with good senses. Whatever is apprehended by the six unimpaired senses is recognized by the world as true, and the rest is distinguished by the world as inverted." Thus, although the root cause of delusion in the minds of subjects is the same, being obscured by ignorance, it is distinguished by whether or not it is obscured by the immediate cause of delusion, such as cataracts.
